    Round 9

Vargas circles and jabs, but Forbes is stepping inside and landing jabs with him. Crisp jabs to the chin landed by both men, neither blinking. Forbes forces his way in and pins Vargas on the ropes, working the body. Vargas throws a lead right and Forbes ducks to counter with a body jab. Forbes dives past a missed Vargas jab and whacks the youngster in the sides with two-handed pendulum attacks. Sustained volley to the body by Forbes, keeping Vargas on the ropes. Slapping overhand by Vargas trying to back out of the pocket. Squatting jab to the body by Forbes. HBO stats show Vargas out landing Forbes in jabs 10 to 1! :patsch That is WRONG. Forbes is blocking most of Vargas' jabs and walking him down.

    10-9 Forbes

    89-82 Vargas

    Round 9

Nice left hook from Forbes, another hook from the right to the head of Vargas. vargas backs out and is trying to use the jab to keep distance. forbes is walking Vargas and Vargas lands a nice left to the ody of Forbes. Forbes pins Vargas on the ropes and fights out of clinch attemps bangs Vargas hard then catches him withe a nice right upper cut that stuns Vargas. They clinch and are in the middle of the ring, nice right hand from Stevie over a lazy jab. Stevie is pressing the action and banging Vargas to the body with the heavier shots and Vargas is just catching and trying to hold back the tide. Stevie round, clearly.

    87- 84 Vargas

Ten (guaranteed) rounds with a wily veteran who knows all the tricks and has a VERY high ring IQ is never a bad education for a supple young student mind..

"If this was a 15 rounder, it's a very good possibility Forbes wins..."

If we're going to judge based on pre-fight pad work then Hopkins should have lost his last 10 fights.
