Great Fight by Cotto... he didn't loose by that wide of a margin! Lost by 2 rounds in my humble opinion but he put on a great performance! he has nothing to be ashamed off... he should have stayed for interview and not leave, has nothing to be ashamed off
Cotto deserves credit for being game in a loss. Mayweather deserves even more credit for winning. In lopsided fashion, at that.
Leave EVTing to the experts. What are you talking about? Cotto's Achilles heel has always been his stamina. He showed his wind against Margo, Pac, Clottey, etc. Floyd was busting him up with punches which tired the hell out of him, and he worked so damn hard to win that 8th round like a warrior that he had spent most of his tank. If anything, Cotto proved he was immensely conditioned and that he has one hell of a heart despite having stamina issues. I was surprised he was able to take and throw as much as he could considering that issue. Agree with this, thought he could have jabbed more. Did jab well to the body, more. Most definitely. It shows to good degree that Floyd is not a high volume fighter, and thus is susceptible to being out-worked and hit up more than most might have imagined. It also shows his Ring IQ and in-fight adjustments are rather overestimated. For example, he did not nullify Oscar's jab in their fight. Oscar was probably just tired and seemed unable to keep in position as well to throw it in the last half of the fight. He did not adjust amazingly to Judah... Judah mentally faltered as he always does which Floyd even talked about during his post-fight interview. He is certainly beatable. I'm not entirely convinced Pac can do it. Pac has become too technically conscious as of late and not ferocious and reckless enough. It's essentially what Nacho illustrated as to why Pac was more suited for Marquez now. Pac has become a little less dangerous, more predictable, and his activity seems to be waning. Also, Floyd could just implement a Marquez III blueprint and box & move Pac to a decision if he truly wants to win. It's not that he isn't capable, and it would make for a boring affair.
At the end of the day Manny and Floyd said Cotto was one of their toughest fights even in winning performances.. Cotto did much better than what I thought he would do in this fight he gave Floyd hell in the early to mid rounds.
Easily could have been Cotto's best performance. Some of the people with me had it 8-4 for Mayweather.
Like most of you I think he did a good job and was very game. However, like many of you I think he under-utilized his jab. He need to double or triple on the jab as Mayweather leans back alot and his shoulder roll defense is good at defending and deflecting hooks and looping shots but he has the hardest time evading the jab as seen by the bloodied nose. I think Miguel needed to press more and throw more. Standing in that defensive shell letting Floyd measure him and tee-off at times without a response was not going to get the job done. Overall good performance by both men. I think Miguel should have gotten 4 rounds for sure maybe 5 at a stretch.
Definitely agree. I was sounding like Jack Lowe, Pavlik's former trainer yelling "Double the jab Cotto." Agreed, but Miguel did what he could. His stamina has always been an issue. This problem only seems elevated at the highest weights in my estimation. He threw a heck of a lot in that 8th. What a round that was.
This was Cotto's beat performance at 154 he really dug deep & showed great heart and stamina. He beats Sergio at 154 fighting like that IMO
Man you're thick. If he had more energy in the 12th then chances are better he wouldn't have been rocked in that 12th. Too logical for ya? As it was, Cotto spent too much in that 8th round...and as usual was having stamina issues late rounds.
