I was really looking forward to it being from Ireland, i thought we would see some great matches and good performances all round what we got were scrappy, messy fights,no real excitement and no real stars coming to the fore,(although McDonagh didnt do himself any harm). Some big reputations some big egos (see rea and fitz) and little to show for it at the end of the night,Fairly dissapointed. Then Paul goes and loses just to take the last bit of jam out of the donought...
On paper b4 the night I thought thiswould be a nuts, tear up after tear up. The first fight was a war, but then it all got very very ugly and messy. Really didn't enjoy it. Yep, worst yet.
It was just mailing and wrestling from o'kane, barely a punch landed. And the other matches were tame
the first was a war but the type of war youd see outside a chippy after closing, pulling dragging swinging very little skill and clean punches....and it went downhill from there.:rofl
The quality wasn't there with the fighters, not a lot of experience in the whole thing and I only enjoyed the Joe Rea quarter final and the first semi out of all of the fights. I missed the first fight though!
It looked promising with the first fight being a war, Rea's quarter was good and the rest was disappointing. One of the worst for me.
I think that although it sounded good on paper, when it came down to it an Irish Middleweights didn't offer enough of a pot to pick a decent line up from.......... I really love the concept of Prizefighter, although it has felt a bit stale of late:think I don't know why, but I've enjoyed the midweek ones more; something about an evening of live boxing after work........ love it!:happy
Was there, first fight was pretty ****ing good, second fight was very messy but Healy tidied up by round 2 and it was a fair fight (and a robbery), third fight was boring as ****, fourth I had money on Rea so I was loving it but it wasn't a bad fight. O'Kane's knockout speaks for itself, the Rea semi-final sucked ass, then the main event was just O'Kane's for the taking. Not a bad night, to be honest I was more bored by the El Maachi/Witter Prizefighter and probably a bunch of others that don't come to mine than this one. Also, Rea looked really good. Obviously not a prizefighter style but he looked like if he used his jab and had a higher output rather than just ****ing standing there he'd rack up the points a lot easier and probably wouldn't have so many losses.
Worst one I've seen for sure, only decent fight imo was the first fight in it - the o'kane quarter final.
Got to bear in mind the fact that Joe Rea actually got a chance to have a proper training camp for this and came into tonight in better shape than he has been for years. He mentioned it on one of the threads on here, its a shame that boxers like him can't be at there best more often.
