Why are some people saying that Mayweather-Cotto was close?

I gave Cotto 2 rounds too. A lot of rounds were close, plenty could have been draws or Cotto rounds. The rounds within were competitive, but not the actual scoring.

Mayweather won convincingly, but Cotto made it competitive.

Mayweather won his rounds a lot more clearly than Cotto.

mayweather won the fight 7 rounds to 5 or 7 to 4 and 1 a draw but cotto did surprise may with some lateral movements and gave a great performance but i say now he should retire unless he can get a match with canelo where i think he can win than call it a career

    Yep.

A 116-112 (8 rounds to 4) card wouldn't be unreasonable (that's what I was expecting more or less, but I had no probs with the decision), so a 8-4 fight that is competitive can be described as relatively close, but clear. That said, according to the judges it wasn't as close as some people described it. Maybe the fact that Cotto proved to be more game than what most expected, was the reason for the 'close fight' comments.

yeah exactly how I saw it. This fight wasn't a shutout, but this fight would be a good example of a competitive shutout in a sense.

I had a it slightly wider, but 116-112 is a respectable score for the fight for Floyd.

Cotto came to fight, had a size advantage, and used it. It just wasn;t nearly enough.

Yea, I think a 117-111 card would be just right.

The 118-110 ones were too wide for me considering the effort Cotto put in and the fight those guys produced.

Will watch again and actually score it. Hell of a fight and the entertainment factor was there throughout.

If anyone won it was floyd but it was closer than 9-3/10-2 I would say 7-5/6-6 the most because this is boxing somethings people see differently and maybe later on it would be scored differently due to less bias, more time to analyse etc etc but people here just hate on everyone who disagrees wih them
