Mayweather won 8 rounds to 4 imo,BUT Cotto was always in the fight.I was surprised that Cotto backed off because when he was initiating the attacks he was backing Floyd up and made him look uncomfortable. When the fight was in the centre of the ring Floyd used his footwork and movement to avoid Cotto's shots and bang him constantly with that looping right hand.
A great fight and a great advert for boxing.I'd certainly like to see a rematch.

Great fight. Floyd 8-4, he threw way more than we're used to seeing him throw. Also, in between rounds that's the most troubled expression he's given us in a long time, he didn't even look bothered after Round 2 of Mosley

I believe this to be true to a certain extent. I can't remember what round it was, but from a mid round onwards, Cotto pushed Mayweather back on to the ropes, and made him fight there. But before that point, Mayweather willingly (like he does normally) put his back against the ropes, and had a great deal of success there...firing off combinations.

Cotto being the physically stronger of the two surprised me. After watching Mayweather hold his own against Mosley and Ortiz, I thought Mayweather would have been the stronger of the two. :conf

I'll rewatch the bout and offer more of a contribution to this thread. :good

    Word man, thanks!

In terms of strength, I remember saying that Margarito at 153 was probably stronger than the version of Mosley that Floyd fought, and lots of people insisted that Floyd would have the strength advantage. I went into it thinking Cotto would have a slight advantage, and he did, it made the difference in lots of rounds. I also underestimated his ability to fight on the inside with craft.

I haven't gotten around to scoring it, but when I watched it, I was sure more people were going to be claiming a 7-5 victory for Floyd or maybe even a Cotto victory. I'll have to watch it again and write up an in-depth scorecard because apparently the vast majority disagree with me. When you do rewatch it, I'd appreciate if you could post yours, always good to get a more objective fan's opinion :good

    Tell me about it :patsch

**** comes through in waves. Post-Margarito, the *******s were flourishing as Manny beat up bigger men and Floyd lay silent on vacation. After Marquez-Pacquiao 3 and Mayweather-Ortiz/Cotto, the *****s are out in full force. Just gotta deal I guess :conf
