Why are some people saying that Mayweather-Cotto was close?

I thought Cotto won rounds 3, 6 and 8 and felt 10 and 11 were close.
Good fight and 2 of my favourite active fighters

I think a lot of people are scoring the fight off of punch stats alone. Most of the rounds Mayweather was outlanding Cotto...but for a lot of those middle rounds Cotto was in control by landing, controlling the ring, and being the aggressor. This was night an easy night for Floyd

Fights are scored on clean punching. You only go to the other stuff when clean punching is even. Floyd had a bloody nose. cotto was mangled its easy to see who clean punching favored.

Cotto handled himself better then I expected. He had a few good moments, but clearly got out boxed by mayweather. I was really feeling the combination that Floyd was hitting him with. The straight right and left upper cut, was his bread and butter.

Cotto had swelling on the side of his head, but Floyd wasn't landing his shots that well in the middle rounds...where Cotto was having success

    This.

He started strong and won the first two. He finished strong and won the last two. From rounds 3-10, I think you can safely say that Cotto must be given two of those rounds. Imo, Cotto should, be given three, and could be given four, depending on how you score the ninth. Cotto performed well in most of the rounds, though...which is why the fight was better and seemed closer than it actually was.

It was decently close, but not round wise. You can lose every round and still make it close every round (not saying this happened).

cotto was missing more than ortiz, all night the only punch he could really throw and land with confidence was the jab, evey time he tried to put 3-4 together floyd would parry them away. some of the journalist working were sat like 30 yeards away from the ring so they couldn't really tell what was landing and what wasn't thats why they got some silly scorecards where they had it for floyd by 2-3.

floyd won the first 5 easy, in round 6 cotto had his best moments thus far because floyd chose to fight his fight and cotto took this round and the 8th nothing more. 118-110 floyd.

You are not a fanatic, you only ride PBF's Mushrum head with your mouth with all the $hit you talk. Now, STFU.

Dude, it was a good fight, some rounds could have gone either way.

Floyd clearly won, I gave Miguel 4 rounds and 2 others could have gone either way but I gave them to Floyd. There you have it. 8/4 Floyd.

if cotto didnt get hurt the last round he was winning the round and had we won the round it would have been 7-5 for sure. but i had it 8-4 in a close fight. mayweather was hurt a few times and his pitty pat punches werent affective what won floyd the fight was his volume.

    NO.

Just check out the compubox number man. :-(

The kid Ortiz could not land jack $hit on PBF. Floyd fugged him up...before he got clocked by Mayweather's sucker punch which by the way it was dirty should have been discualified by it.

I really hope when Cotto watches the fight back he stops his "I was robbed" nonsense..........worse than BHop claiming the decision against Dawson was dodgy
