1. Cotto's jab was better last night. He still needed to throw more and come in with the jab instead of walking in with the high guard. 2) My point was that he was spending too much time in his guard and being inactive at times. 3) Agree with the habit thing not sure about the slow reaction or what you really mean by it.
If Cotto threw the jab more then Mayweather would have been able to time and counter it. I think he did a good job of throwing the jab when the time was right and catching Mayweather at good times. Cotto also improvised some shots which was excellent like that right hand that caught Mayweather off guard as Cotto looked like he was walking and looking away from a break. The only thing Cotto could have done more then he did was fight a little dirty. Other then that there is nothing Cotto could do within his skill set to beat Mayweather who is just better then him.
1. If Cotto used the jab for a long period of time, Mayweather would have let his right straight counter be a primary weapon.. (At the gym we call it right cross but when its Mayweather who's doing it, it doesn't look like its a right cross..) Cotto mixing the jab to face and to the buddy would have ate a lot of counters.. :deal 2. Cotto used the guard for him to get close to Mayweather.. At first Cotto tried to come close by stepping in behind his jab, but that wasn't effective.. So he chose to establish a guard and push Mayweather on the ropes everytime he's got the opportunity.. 3. Mayweather clearly owns the mid range, Cotto has no answer for it.. :deal Maybe Cotto is just getting some air before starting another assault on Mayweather's very tough defense.. Or Mayweather is really hurting Cotto on the inside.. Maybe frustrated? I don't know how Cotto feels everytime he's inside.. :conf But looking at it as a fan, great effort for Cotto.. :good
Not use the left hand enough, whether it be a jab or a left hook to body or head, it was landing quite often, but he seemed to keep throwing an overhand right that was missing by miles. For example he would land a left, right body, lead in with the right miss and get countered. Ie he went downstairs up with the left hook I believe it would have broke through floyds guard on the ropes. Use more lateral movement, at times he was actually making floyd miss when evading shots with movement instead of parrying them away, there war opportunities for cotto to counter mayweather.
I think he focused on this shot even though it's far from his best because it's the power punch Floyd is most open to
I did not see enough combos or double/triple jabs. I must say that his body work was brutal! I think that Floyd will be pissing blood for a week!
So basically from what some of you are saying is that if Miguel would of jabbed more Floyd would of just answered with a counter right and that would be the end of it. Nothing Cotto could of done about it. Ok I guess so
