Cotto who fought Mayweather against Manny Pacquio

The reason why Cotto had so many issues with Pac was the fact that Pac was returning fire with fire, but at a crazy pace that Miguel is not accustomed to fighting. Recheck their first fight. Yeah, Miguel wasn't at his best fight weight, but if you look at the 2nd round on, he starts getting hit a lot and simply got broken down. Mayweather, if he would have stepped on the gas more, IMO, could have taken Cotto out of there.

 

Cotto doesnt make excuses for losing....

Cotto wasn't drained against Pac. Stop making **** up, guys.

You take that version of Pac (2009) and put him in with last night's Cotto, and he still would have been a nightmare for him. Cotto may have avoided the same beating (due to having a better trainer and now knowing how much damage Pac can do), but the result wouldn't have been that different.

Cotto's style is pretty much the same, except that he had to adjust and keep his guard up, pushed Mayweather on the ropes to be more effective.. While he had to be running around the ring just to survive Pac's onslaught..

Any version of Cotto probably would be reduced to running from Pac for much of the fight.

 

Does a lot better, at the very least.

 

Better trainer and more disciplined approach from Cotto=better performance on the whole against that version of Pac.

That being said, I still think Pac would win the fight pretty clearly...He just wouldn't dominate in quite the same manner as he did when they met inside the ring and I don't think he'd be able to prevent Cotto from hearing the final bell.

 

It doesn't mean that if Mayweather can't KD Cotto, Pac won't be able to do it.. You can compare it on how Cotto's face is busted up.. :hey Floyd and Pac have opposite styles.. You think Cotto would still want to go inside if its Pac in front of him? :bart

They enforced the catchweight because Pac was the smaller fighter coming up at the time, remember. Prior, he weighed 138 against the bigger Ricky Hatton at LWW. It was a given, then, that a fight against the even bigger Miguel Cotto at WW would be at a catchweight of some sort. Which is why Cotto himself had no problem accepting it (his only issue was putting his title on the line).

And yeah, they weren't fully confident of Pac fighting live welterweights when he hadn't yet proven what he was capable of at the weight. That's why they turned down a fight against Mosley. Because they thought he was too big. Pac, at that time, was still seen as that career featherweight that was testing the waters at higher weights.

Honestly, it amazes me how everyone's forgotten what the climate was like during Pac's to the welterweight division. A lot of people not long ago were scoffing at him even being able to survive with the likes of Cotto and Hatton, and now they're accusing him of making Cotto weight one pound less than a fight he had before, whilst forgetting that Pacquiao was operating 10-15 pounds north of what they thought (only a year or so before) he was capable of? Ridiculous.

I think the lack of a REAL trainer was more devastating for Cotto than the weight, although at 154 he would obviously be more comfortable.

But seriously, Cotto was basically training with a gym trainer for the paquiao fight.
