They looked like they were in separate weight classes. the size of canelo's midsection compared to mosley's, and his legs were tree trunk-like compared to mosley's.
Impressed enough that I'm now a full-fledged, card-carrying Canelo fan. Even though Mosley was shot to hell, he was still not far from the Mosley that fought FLoyd and Pac and Canelo demolished him and a similar fashion. As a matter of fact this Mosley kept trying for 12 rounds whereas the Mosley that showed up vs Pac/May seemed to give up early. I honestly thought the old lion would show the young cub a few tricks but Canelo came through with flying colors. Gave Canelo a B+ for this performance.
same way I see it. I was hard on him at first, but he won me over. btw, no I didn't sport this avatar because of that reason :-(
Dude was 19 YEARS YOUNGER than Mosley. He did what he was supposed to do. Don't blow this out of proportion. First time he's in there with a really good technical boxer and overcomes being beat to the punch and is forced to work out of his comfort zone, then I'll be impressed.
Why did Canelo did better then PAC though? Canelo closed the ring and made mosely fight, PAC got a flash KD then couldn't even close the ring and touched gloves like 10000 time...Did Mosely age that much in a year... or was he still the same 40 year old man? Not blowing out of proportion just stating facts.
Age means squat if you don't have the skills. Some of you are working extra hard to not give the young man his dues.
He was on the receiving end of a whipping by the second or third round. He was not competetive with Canelo in any round except maybe the first.
Yeah, I was really impressed with him. When the fight was announced I thought it could be a bit tricky and then watching the build up, hearing what Mosley said, hearing Canelo and all the announcers, I thought there may be an upset. I was probably lured in by the HBO team selling the fight but even so, Canelo did impress me. I thought he showed lots of maturity for someone who is so young and inexperienced. People can talk about him having 40 fights but that's irrelevant because most of those fights have been against poor opposition. For a 21 year old to stay focused like he did against a legend? That's impressive. Physically, I thought he looked quick and I love the way he throws his shots. It's like every punch is trying to take his opponents head off. He was accurate, but that could be more about Mosley than Canelo, and he has a beautiful array of body punches. I heard about Canelo before I saw him. When I did see him for the first time, against Cotto, I was underwhelmed overall but he's maturing well. Ronnie Shields had plenty of compliments for him and I can see why. Alvarez is developing into an excellent fighter.
it's understandable that alvarez wants the marquee names, but there are a surplus of guys at 154 that he still can prove himself against.
The only troubling thing about Alvarez's performance for me was his inactivity. In the first round it took Canelo about 30 or 45 seconds to throw his first punch. He would always take the first 1:30 - 2:00 minutes of the round off before turning it up toward the end. I feel he could've stopped Mosley if he had sustained 3 minutes of solid work, but he either wasn't willing or wasn't able to do that. This could spell trouble against someone like James Kirkland who likes to swarm his opponents and attacks constantly. But, it was a good performance from a very capable young fighter on a mega-PPV card. Mosley is terribly shot, but he beat Shane up worse than either Pacquiao or Mayweather did.
