Who would majority of UK support: Khan, or Mayweather?

They expect that behavior from black Americans and find it amusing, like a dancing minstrel.

Its less amusing when one of their own does it, particularly one of their more despised classes of society.

 

Most people in the UK will support the UK fighter in a fight against top level opposition, especially if it captures a decent amount of casual fans like Hatton did in his fights with Floyd and Pacquiao.

Amongst hardcore UK fans I'd think there would be a slight slant in support towards Khan because of national bia but it would be a lot closer eventhough most would say that they think Floyd will win.

Personally, I wouldn't give a **** about supporting either guy because Khan has no chance in this one. No inside game.

 

I'm suprised some english posters think khan would be favoured, that's not the impression I get at all. Hardcore fans and casuals alike who I know despise the bloke. I guess we'll never know for sure.

 

60/40 in favour of Khan, IF the fight is in England.

Khan has never really been all that popular with the UK audience (at least compared to guys like Hatton and Bruno), partly because of his heritage, ethnicity and religious beliefs... but also partly because of his middle class upbringing, he doesn't appeal to the working class. At least from what I can tell?

Shame really, he's the best fighter the brits have at the moment imo.

 

Same for me with Haye.


I'm American but I would root for him over Arreola, Mitchell, and Jennings.

what behavior? Khan is nothing like an american, hes just a dumbass. are black americans the only cocky people in the world? they seem to have no problem with Frochs arrogance.

 

froch has charisma and a sense of humour to offset his arrogance...khan is outspoken and utterly stupid..never a good mix.

Floyd's sense of humor is painfully juvenile but he would still enjoy much more support than Khan in the UK.

 

From reading some posts for the past couple of years, it seems like uk fans hate on their own fighters.

Most countries have that national pride crap where they will cheer an athlete from their own country regardless of circumstance. I was talking to a guy who refused to acknowledge a sweet play during a recent NHL game because the player was American. I assume the same blind love/hate applies to most Brits. Mayweather's ability would easily attract boxing fans but the reason behind the big support in England should be the Hatton fight. Even since both were at 140 and they were rumored to fight. That lasted for a long time before they finally met and the longer it lasted the more popular Mayweather became as a potential foe to Hatton who was getting more and more attention/love/support each fight. Hatton's loss would definitely leave a lot of admirers and haters and the result is obvious today.

Amir Khan represented England in the olympics and still does, there's not much more to be said beyond that. The British are loyal towards their stars, always been.
