Thoughts on Mayweather Cotto and how I scored it.

I gave Cotto rounds 3, 6, 8 and 9. Round 9 was a bit of a wrestling match but felt Cotto controlled the round, had great defense, made Floyd miss big while landing pretty equally in punches. 3, 6, 8 were pretty clear for Cotto. I found it funny Lederman gave round 5 to Cotto. He had a moment in the 2nd half of round5 but Floyd literally did some of his best work till round 7 and 12.

Cotto was in great shape. His style posed a lot of problems for Floyd. I along with many others expected the straight right from Floyd to dominate. Cotto was able to nullify it with his peak a boo defense and counter punching. He made Floyd miss an aweful lot. Cottos speed was on point and was enhanced by his timing. He was actually having more success boxing in the center of the ring than when he had Floyd on the ropes. Cotto has that off rythm movement and jab, winging type punches/jab that caught Floyd by surprise and threw him off his rythm.

Floyd had great jabs to the stomach and right hooks around Cotto's guard. Floyd was really sitting down on his punches and did great work on the inside. He'd fight off the ropes and be the last to capitalize. Cotto had his moments but Floyd secured the rounds he needed yet had some off-rounds where he simply got outworked. His conditioning and punch output really pulled him through the fight. He was noticably winded by rounds 11 and 12 and i believe it had a lot to do with the bloody nose, was breathing through his mouth too much. That plus he had to work harder this fight than any other. Cotto was also fatigued a bit more than Floyd and just couldnt do enough for those final 2 or 3 rounds.

This fight was great. I believe Cotto fought a great game-plan. Floyd couldnt do all the things he wanted. So he implented right hooks and uppercuts. He was really trying to ko Cotto but just couldnt land enough. Cotto proved why he is a future hall of famer.

Even though the fight was closer than expected, Floyd beat Cotto at his own game. I do believe Floyd is honest when he says he coulda moved or ran and boxed his way to an easier decision. But he chose to bang and exchange, even wrecklessly at times. What i liked most was Floyd seemed to be enjoying himself at times, smiling at the crowd with.his bloodied face. Not a smirk like when he got caught by Mosley, but a real smile.

The crowd was amazing. The commentating was once again 3 old dudes ranting about God knows what. And Cotto should be proud of himself and come back stronger. I want to see Canelo vs Cotto or Mayweather. Canelo has a huge chance vs either.

Round 3 was very close. Round 9 was a bit of everything, mostly wrestling and inside fighting with both landing decent shots. But Cotto made Floyd miss a lot and controlled the ring effectively. I dont like even rounds so i pay close attention to ring generalship.
