Cotto - Mayweather was a lot closer than the scorecards

Seems like anything from 5-8 points seems reasonable. I didn't score the fight, but clearly Mayweather won.

 

That is exactly how I had it scored. Floyd up by 1 at the end.

However, I did have one round scored even.

I thought the early rounds were back and forth, some could have gone either way.

Middle rounds Cotto dominated and bloodied Floyd.

Later rounds Floyd was able to maintain a comfortable distance and keep Cotto off him.

Anyone saying Cotto didn't win at least 4 rounds is nuthugging.

 

If people take off their rose tinted glasses, watch the fight again and you will see that Cotto won no more than 4 rounds. I think round 9 was very close and could have gone either way.

 

tbh, lots of mayweathers shots were hitting gloves and arms. nevertheless, i thought he won comfortably.

 

117-112 Mayweather, for me.

I thought the scorecards were quite accurate, but I agree (probably not in the same way as you) that the bout was closer than the scorecards suggested. Some very close rounds, and as competitive a bout you can find when a boxer picks up a close, but clear decision.

 

Blade, you have to keep in mind a few things.

1. HBO is jocking Floyd so hard, its crazy. He gets special treatment and more face time than any other fighter.

2. Boxing as a sport is making lots of money with Floyd, so you can't expect them to bite the hand that's feeding them.

3. Typically, in a round that is too close to call, officials give it to the Champion. However in Floyd's fights they almost always give it to Floyd. (see #2 above)

4. All 3 judges were from Vegas. (see #2 above)

5. Cotto did take Floyd out of his comfort zone. He did bloody him. He did force Floyd to make several adjustments. It was the only fight where I can remember Floyd clearly losing rounds.

6. You can already see media re-cap's and *****'s making it out like it was a blow out fight, when in fact it wasn't anything near a blowout. (see #'s 2 and 3 above)

 

I had 116-112 Mayweather or even 117-111. Either way, if you lose, would a 115-113 loss make you feel better than a 120-108 loss? A loss is a loss.

 

I had it 117-111 but that doesn't mean that most of the rounds weren't competitive. Cotto did a lot of good work but Floyd did more.

It was somewhat like when Morales fought Hernandez. Famoso was always in the fight and competitive throughout but he lost 118-110 - the scorecards alone didn't reflect all the good work he did but Morales had an edge in almost every round.

 

Agreed. Cotto won at least 4-5 rounds. Bandwagon mentality is what this is all about. Everybody wants to pretend they are REAL fans of the guy who is supposed to always win. Posers... :hat
