The butteryfly has lost its wings
The bee has lost its sting
You are finished you loud mouthed ba**ard

[Poem delivered to Muhammad Ali upon his loss to Ken Norton, March 31 1973]

Thereafter Ali returned and defeated Ken Norton.
He then convincingly outpointed Joe Frazier.
He continued and dethroned the seemingly invincible George Foreman.
He then demonstrated an exemplary level of bravery and resolve to cause Joe Frazier to retire at the end of the 14th round in Manilla.

These are the reasons why Muhammad Ali is considered to be the greatest heavyweight of all.

Regarding Foreman this must always bear in mind :
http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=211663

Ali wanted 2 retire , he told Dundee 2 cut his gloves while he was sitting in his corner after d 14th rd , I think he didn't want 2 quit though , only meant Dundee should repeat his Henry Cooper magic (c d Henry Cooper story here : http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=347452) much luckily 4 him , Frazier retired in his corner because his face was so swollen he couldn't c with his 1 functioning eye (Frazier was blind in 1 eye due 2 cataract since b4 their fight) .

Muhammad Ali is not even d greatest Muhammad of all time . He probably is d greatest Cassius though .

On the '3' Officials who scored 'THE FIGHT'

They were all from San Diego, California

And, they all had worked together as a 'team' in many bouts in San Diego.

Referee, Fred Rustich (age 62) had been a boxing official (Referee and Judge) since 1946.

Judge, Hal Richards (age 59) had been a boxing official (Referee and Judge) since 1950.

Judge, Fred Hayes (age 42) had been a boxing official (Judge) since 1970.

As you can see, the 'old school guys' went with the Marine, while the
younger guy went with the 'culture figure'.

Any Surprise,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

How anyone could have scored that fight for Muhammad Ali is 'beyond belief'........:patsch

The issue of the ropes is frankly a misnomer and an irrelevance in comparison to what the expectations of the ordinary masses were on the eve of the fight in Zaire. It was 'common knowledge' that George would be too strong and powerful for a 32 year old Ali. It was 'common knowledge' that George was adept at 'cutting off the ring' against his opponents and then punishing them against the ropes. It was 'common knowledge' that even if Ali did move for the early part of the fight, George would eventually catch him and sound the death toll...all of which Ali spectacularly defused with his ring knowledge and improvisation. Greatness is measured by doing the 'impossible', it is quantified by upsetting the odds, it is known by facing your greatest nemesis and defeating them...and Ali did against both Liston and Foreman.

Perhaps it is conceivable to suggest that Ali wanted to retire. But he did not. He continued. His resolute will and profound self belief compelled him to fight on.

Larry Holmes once remarked that it was Ali's ability to pull the proverbial 'rabbit out of the hat' that marked his greatness in the ring; and he ought to know being present in both Zaire and Manilla.

Muhammad Ali is not even d greatest Muhammad of all time . He probably is d greatest Cassius though .
and he cheated huge time vs Foreman in order 2 disprove that common knowledge . ppl like yourself and d majority of this forum would have praised him if he brought a pistol 2d ring and shot Foreman , it would have been n upset , wouldn't it ?
D **** i care about d public and their correct Xpectaions in this case , Ali and Dundee cheated as usual .
Ali did not want 2 retire , he only wanted n extended break between rounds and wouldn't have issued n objection 2 some powder made 4 sniffin .
Some smelly dead rabbits he used 2 pull out of his s .

It is abundantly clear from your disgraceful remarks and recourse to abuse and profanity that you are an individual who is not deserving of an intelligent response.

Col. Parker,,,,,,,,,

As for the Boxing Officials for the March 31, 1973 Muhammad Ali vs Ken Norton bout.

THE FIGHT

Referee, Frank Rustich had worked in 12 of Ken Norton's previous 30-bouts.

Judge, Hal Richards had worked in 16 of his bouts.

Judge, Fred Hayes had worked in 4 previous bouts.
