You post a fight in which two out of the 3 judges felt Rios did enough to win as an example of what? I felt Rios lost too but I also thing Abril should have been penalized for holding and throwing elbows. Abrl did not win this fight in m opinion but rather Rios gave it away. Every athelete has a bad night. This was Brandon's off night but it does not define his future. He will learn from it and move on. Abril fought a safe, boring and dirty fight. Neither fighter deserved to win in my opinion.
Not a division but rather Rios' natural weight range. I suppose one could say jr. welter or welter though, if one wanted.
I don't mean his last few fights at 135 lb where he was weight drained but I thought before that he had no weight problems making 135 lbs. Hope your right and by not cutting so much weight he fights better, but can he make 140 lbs with out any struggle? I mean he weighed 137 and 139 lbs for the Abril fight and he had to starve himself to make those weights.
I hear you but thats closer to the Jr Middleweight limit ..147 would be better suited for him I think..Thats why I was like 152 :huh
140 will be no problem for now but it may be in a couple years. Brandon had a growth spurt last year. He will surely have another before he turns 30.
Hell, I knew what I meant! It may be more hope on my part than reality but I think the 140 to 147 needs someone like Brandon to make it more exciting. I know I appear to be a Rios fan first and a boxing fan second but I get excited when someone, who can turn a fight with a single punch, comes on the scene. I am a fan of BOXING and if it were your friend who was bringing the excitement I would be a fan of his too.
No way. Fun? Yes. A "force"? Most likely not or not for long. His style is far too brutal (to himself). He leaves a little of himself in the ring each time. He also doesn't cut off the ring very well making himself prone to be out boxed. Couple the increased punching power with the always available option to out box him? Bad news. I like Rios a lot, but he has some glaring deficiencies which I doubt anyone is addressing, (defense and cutting off of the ring). He will burn out like many crude brawlers before him.
his style relies on his punch, his punch resistance and a size advantage at 140-152 he loses some of that punch, resistance, and size advantage he has some things to tweak i figure at the higher weights he may be more explosive and less sluggish if he puts the weight on properly id love a Soto fight
