    Combination of things i think.

Cotto presented two things that gave Floyd some fits with the other two: Pressure and in-fighting with Castillo, and the jab and the bout being at 154lbs with Oscar.

floyd doesnt like pressure. he stays away from fighters who r prime, in the top, and who would give him a tough fight. all these sharmba mitchells, baldomirs, brusseles, he is so predictable. then he wait until the last second to fight cotto, mosley when they r not the same fighter any more.

Oscar fight wasn't close or competitive imo. 9-3 for Floyd. Same score can be used for Cotto-Mayweather though Cotto kept it competitive and could've won 5 rds. Castillo I fight could've gone either way I admit. First I had it for Castillo, then draw, then for Floyd. People forget the the rematch with Castillo was still competitve despite Floyd winning big whereas DLH got dominated.

EDIT: Good point with moving up. One thing I love about Floyd is he'll fight people at their comfortable weight, usually coming off their best performance, then fight them with the style/pace they're comfortable with and still win. Zab was the last guy he fought coming off a loss and that was in '06. Everyone else afterwards was coming off a spectacular performance before he fought them.

    Defense,

Mayweather had trouble hitting all of them cleanly consistently. In order to be competitive with Mayweather you have to take away his offense first and then look for you offense 2nd.

Ricky Hatton was prime and one of the better pressure fighters in boxing. What did Cotto do better in 2008 then now in 2012? Vicotr Ortiz was prime as well.

Cotto's defense was very good on Saturday. Mayweather had to feint plenty to hit Cotto clean.

Even the early rounds of the Zab Judah fight Mayweather had trouble hitting Judah clean so it was competitive until he started rocking him with body shots openning up the head shots down the line.

Hatton can't complain after what he got away with vs Tszyu. But the point really was that Mayweather still fought him. A prime pressure fighter one of the better pressure fighters out there who was stronger and quicker then Castillo.
