This. I'm a big fan of Pat. But he just doesnt seem to take his career serious enough. Plus he just hasn't made the transition at all to MMA. Id prefer if he stayed in Kick Boxing and went to the K-1 circuit. And at least lost some weight and got down to 220 at least.
...So people are seriously suggesting he takes off to K1 and lose a lot of publicity and money because he's not a well rounded fighter? If this guy was getting taken down in every fight and held there I'd understand this.
Well rounded means nothing to me. Its a bull**** phrase coined by that idiot Goldberg that every UFC fan has latched on to. Barry is a striker. Thats his bread and butter. He's a small undersized heavy who will never make 205. Unfortunately he's not made the transition and judging by his dedication to his art he's unlikely too. Personally id prefer to see him in K-1 where he can use his skills better.
If you want to revolutionise your game like Hardy and Barry do then yes I think you are best to take a year off and work on your technical ability. Evolving in a training camp is tough because you are still preparing for a particular style, you'll still go back to your bread and butter etc Barry is a good striker but its been shown via CC, Kongo and Johnson that he isn't unstoppable. Therefore he needs a grappling game. Johnson is the next to be in Barrys shoes. His grappling and stamina won't cut it. A different fighter submits him and he seems prone to a submission.

He'd prefer to be in the UFC, where he earns a shitload more than kickboxing would bring him. Dana and co love him because he's never in a boring fight and he's great with the fans. He's not going to get the opportunity to fight on a bigger stage in kickboxing, and the money will be pathetic compared to what he is now used to. He can go to K1 if/when he gets cut from the UFC. :hat
I think that's very harsh, Stoo. Obviously he has a lot to learn but I don't think he should pack up and **** off to K1. I think a year out to train and learn more would do him a world of good rather than jump back in there and suffer a nasty knockout. Where can he possibly go from there? I think he's trying to learn more and not be so one sided, as obvious as his submission attempt, but he was still foolish to lose mount position, especially as he's a striker and has power in his hands, just a foolish thing to do.
