Sergio is a step backwards. That fight would have to happen at 154. That would be a dangerous fight. However, I'm not sure how much credit he would get for beating the MW champ at 154. That's not a fight people are clamouring for either. I'd love to see it, but I don't think Mayweather sees enough of a reward given the inherent risk involved in that fight.

You need to think outside the world of boxing forums. I don't believe that's a fight that boxing fans in general are hyped about.

When I say a step backwards, I'm not talking about quality of opposition. I'm talking about the magnitude of the bout, and how effects his legacy. That is not a bigger fight than the Cotto fight. As far as legacy, he would get big points if he beat Martinez at MW. At JMW, if he won he would just be beating a drained fighter who's pushing 40. I'd still love to see the fight, but I don't see the upside for Mayweather which is why I don't see him taking that fight. By the same token, I'd love to see a Martinez/Ward fight. However, I can see why that fight doesn't interest Martinez.

It would be a toss-up fight Hawk! Martinez is bigger, much bigger! He also has skills and speed... I would give Floyd all the credit in the world if he took this fight!

Martinez is a career 154 pound king pin! Sergio would not be weight drained @ 154... He's a small MW and 154 is his real division. A Martinez clash @ 154 would be HUGE! It would be a toss-up fight... Floyd was a 7-1 favorite against Cotto! Martinez would be the bigger guy just like Cotto was... the difference is Sergio also has world class skills and good speed and stamina! :deal

Is Andre coming down to 160? Sergio is already a small MW... :hat

Maybe Sergio would be drained at 154, maybe he wouldn't. However, you can't deny that's what people would be saying if Mayweather were to win. You have to wonder why Sergio complained about fighting Williams the 2nd time at a catch weight and why he refuses to fight guys like Lara and Kirkland below the 160 limit if he's so comfortable at 154.

    good point.

Of course sergio said he can make 154, nobody is going to turn down a fight with floyd or manny.
