And yet defintely of the previous generation.

Hopkins was past it. Still brilliant, but not as his best.

Denis Lebedev broke through beating poor old Enzo and has added Jones, Toney and Cox in his last three outings.

    Buchanan is worth a mention

He was hitting his peak as the fighters who had fought for the entirety of the 60s were in various degrees of decline and shotness, beat the big two in Ortiz and Laguna(as well as Cullen domestically and a few others like Narvaez, Hernandez) and just as it looked like he had cleaned up and was set for a potentially great reign, he was undone by Duran.

Y'know. It is a rite of passage to take down some of the old guard in becoming the new stud, in boxing, other sports, literature, music, damn near every endeavor man undertakes.

I have no issue with fighters feasting on has-beens, or, for that matter, never-weres, or other assorted 'bums.'

As long as they have a decent resume of 'good' wins, that's mostly what they should be judged on.

    E.g.

All true, but all three (Louis, Ali and Lewis) have more than enough solid wins (Charles, Walcott, Schmeling, Liston, Terrell, Frazier, Foreman, Ruddock, Tua, Briggs etc.) to merit consideration as greats.

Past-prime scalps would have to be considered in proper context.

    This.

Norris not only defeated the remnants of a previous generation, but his entire resume was based almost exclusively on it.. Leonard, Curry, Mugabi, even Simon Brown who kicked his ass in the first fight.
