the evidence of the rematch and rubbermatch and Benitez show that Duran in the first fight fights Leonard of the second fight and Ray wins a UD or stoppage. Ray is the one who made Duran quit, not the other way around. Ray fought Duran's fight and still was not knocked out.

My God MAG you just have to ruin every ****ing Duran discussion with the same excuses for a "green" Leonard and complete ignorance of Duran's physical condition in the rematch, as was admitted by Ray himself.

And a mobile Floyd would make Duran quit.

How can you believe that? Floyd, as skilled and talented as he is, was never a terribly mobile fighter (besides at 130 when his offense was more blistering and he changed range often.) The only way Leonard was able to achieve that feat with Duran was using a style of movement and hitting on the move Floyd is not habituated to, and after capitalizing on his weight issues, as told by Leonard himself. There's no reason to apply such circumstances on a hypothetical fight with Duran.

Yet you want to base Duran's success against Leonard who adittedly fought Duran's fight out of machismo, as a comparison to how he would do against a smart boxer like Mayweather?

    Not very partial.

I agree. Ray admitted to fighting Duran's fight. He said "I wanted to beat that man at his own game. And I almost did!!" Then Ray fights his fight and become a more complete professional and he dazzles Duran and outboxes him and made him quit. The interesting thing is he was starting to land to the body in the round Duran quit and was landing cleaner punches and being more aggressive. The third fight is significant because even an older Ray fights his fight and wins every round against Duran.

My points about Roberto and Ray are not going to change just because a few years go by. I always felt this even going back to the 1980s. Ray still said he fought Duran's fight. Ray might have said he wanted Duran quickly, but that was as much a ploy as Duran insulting Ray and making him fight his fight. Regardless, if you ask Ray had you boxed Duran in the first fight would you have won? He would have said something like "No problem".

Agreed. He's been outboxed by lesser boxers than Ray. And when Ray actually fought his own fight Duran quit.

So after 5, 6, 7, 8 rounds, Leonard willingly took the loss? Is that what you're saying? That despite the fact after the fact Dundee said Duran made Leonard fight that way through craft, Leonard simply chose to fight Duran like that and take the loss after he was clearly being outgunned on the inside?

Floyd has been cornered by lesser men. It's as simple as that. It's not about being "smart", it's about style and ability. Leonard was more mobile than welterweight Mayweather Jr., and clearly admitted that Duran in the rematch was nothing compared to the version from Montreal by his own design. The question concerns a prime Montreal Duran, not "SRL Rematch" Duran. To suggest the two were the same is just idiotic bias.

The fight will end up on the inside, as it has so many times for Floyd against lesser competition, and he will be outworked by the more skilled and aggressive infighter.

I think Floyd ties up on the inside, jabs and right hands Duran to a late quittage or a UD.

Duran was more active, stronger, and craftier in the clinch than Floyd was. He will hit Floyd more than Floyd will hit him at close range, even in moments Floyd is attempting to tie up. Duran's defense (parrying skills, upper body movement) is also better than everyone Floyd has faced, and Floyd doesn't throw in volume to begin with. For every one jab or right hand Floyd lands, Duran will punish the body and head many more times.

I agree, Robinson would beat Duran in whichever way he choose, no shame in that tho from Duran`s point of view.

Dejesus scored that points win in NewYork, 1972... not Montreal, 1980.

For the record, Duran corrected that blip by KO in 1974 & KO in 1979.... the 1979 match is the closest version Dejesus fought to Montreal Duran & he was absolutely dominated, it wasn`t even a fight.
