Yep not the best move, but they are the board of control, as I have stated before they are there for the good of the sport. They may not always get things spot on all the time but who does?
Yep and VVarren goign on about this is taking a mans livelihood away (**** off) he's earnt plenty money to have a lay off for 6 months and Im sure VVarren could help him out if required as he's the one supporting the clown!
Abstract from Bunce's ESPN article: "But the big question is not whether it's right that Haye or Chisora take to the ring - instead, it's a long-term question over what affect their meeting is going to have on British boxing. Can boxers with a British licence fight on the bill? Trainers, seconds, promoters, whips with British licences, can they take part? If they can't, then I would imagine those people would consider applying for a licence from the Luxembourg Boxing Association. What impact would that have on their British licence? This is what needs to be resolved" I think this is where the real damage could be done, a massive fall out on the cards if they dont sort this out behind closed doors.
Limbo. Exactly. Instead of a clear set of rules related to punishments, which depend on the whim of the boards members, whos individual attitudes may vary greatly year on year meaning that someone gets banned for a completely different length of time. I know what youre saying mate and its true in a lot of ways, I just think the board handled it badly
Yeah, Chisora wouldn't have been back in the ring until June or July anyway. He went 12 rounds with Vitali in February. Frank Warran "It's the equivalent of a premiership player being banned for 24 games !" Yes, because just like footballers, heavyweight boxers generally take part in a competitive match twice a week. atsch
To be fair, a 6 month ban for a boxer--even if they only miss one fight--could amount to a big loss in terms of percentage earnings.
They could handle it better. But that's life. Whatever the board did wrong, none of it seems to amount to a good excuse to say Chisora SHOULD be licensed to fight Haye in the UK in July ! Warran's arguments seem to be weak, IMO. He makes some good points, but all it sounds like to me is "MONEY ! MONEY ! MONEY !" .... Personally, I'm not against the fight. What happens happens. I've watched unlicensed shows before. But I do think the BBBofC acted in the only way they can with the statement they made this week.
Not sure if this is out there yet, but this is interesting - Charles Giles, Chairman of the BBBofC was officiating at the Wilfried Sauerland promotion on Saturday (presumably for the IBF)... ...in Germany, sanctioned by the Austrian Boxing Federation. :nut
:deal Im not really against it at all. Whats clear here is a lot of big personalities, a lot of money and a lot of agendas are heading for a head on collision and no-one wants to hit the breaks. The best scenario is it being granted a British license, with some sort of climb down on the part of Frank, to save face all round. Otherwise im gona start handing out licenses.
True, it was ripping the hole out of it there, the scarey thing is that a lot of the casuals will swallow that up.
Featuring German boxers who have been declared 'unfit' to hold a German license ? No, I thought not. :good
