I'm watching Khan/Peterson now and I'm asking myself should pushing be banned?

I used to fight and I still sparred here and there and while I sparr/fight I DO push sometimes. I do think that Khan was kind of pushing extensively, but not to the point where the ref had to take a point.

I think the ref took a point cuz he was from DC.

    What do you guys think?

Is it any worse than fighters (e.g. Peterson, Ward) leading in with their heads? It's disgraceful that Ward was allowed to headbutt Kessler repeatedly, yet Khan got penalised for pushing.

It's crap, slows down the action, and is amaturish. It is clearly against the rules.

Khan just doesn't have an inside game so he repeatedly pushed despite warning after warning.

This dead horse has been beaten before, by the way.

Way to not answer the question at all.

Who is your favorite fighter again?

It's bull****. I hate sparring guys a lot bigger than me and all they do is ****ing push. Foreal, you got absolutely no skills, so if I get too close you just push me away.

Creating space occasionally via it is fine doing it relentlessly through the bout however is bull****.

It's an important part of boxing craft, creating space etc.

Boxing skill is creating space using footwork and punches. Any unskilled slob can push a guy. It takes a true boxer to create space using skill.

For some fighters yes, but for others no. Not everyone has the agility of Floyd.

    Styles make fights.

If Sweetpea fought Sweetpea we may have all fallen asleep.

Then maybe try emulating Pac's style...fight midrange, and
    hell with an inside game.

No boxer with the hand and foot speed of Khan should have to resort to repeated pushing; he's athletic.

    This.

Most good boxers don't allow themselves to get smothered all night long. I guess we're all not cut out to be world class fighters if you have to push repeatedly. The rules are just fine the way they are, I have no complaints about boxing rules, also the ref has a bit of discretion which changes the look of a fight from time to time. Good stuff.

    Fair point, Khan is athletic.

However, according to Khan PEDerson was crowding him and sticking his head in without the ref warning PEDerson, hence Khan's reaction of pushing. I admit some of Khan's pushes were pretty blatant and forceful, but the truth is pushing, holding, hitting the hip, hitting low, rabbit punches etc etc are all very much part of the game and you have to be ready to deal with them, necessary skills.

pushing is a sign of weakness, it's for those who don't like getting hit and will do whatever it takes to avoid getting tagged
