It's Armstrong vs Barney Ross for the Welterweight title. Three months on, Armstrong beat Lou Ambers for the Lightweight title, then turned around and beat #1 contender Ceferino Garcia to defend the Welterweight title, outweighed by 12.5 lbs.

No doubt. Fact of the matter is, Duran/Leonard I is probably my favorite welterweight fight of all-time and it rates amongst the best individual wins of all-time; it puts Duran in my top ten. He was in superb condition and able to bring everything he had at Leonard; he made Leonard fight the way he wanted to as much as Leonard 'willingly' did so, but this whole aura of invincibility gets ridiculous at times.

It is the best WW fight I`ve seen also, one of the best performances ever between 2 prime ATGs.... it does get a bit overrated tho, this or any version of Duran gets beat by Robinson, simple.

    :D

Ross got the hell beat out of him. People can say he was washed because he never fought again and retired 74-4, but he'd lost only one damn fight in the previous seven years and that was to Jimmy McLarnin. Armstrong already had 106 fights and was under the lightweight limit.

Benitez and Leonard both demonstrate that Duran would not beat Floyd easily. I think Floyd would win, but say Duran won,, it would not be easy. Duran is much greater, but h2h Floyd would probably win this. The Floyd,Leonard,Benitez style was not good for Duran. They were always one step ahead of him.

Completely different styles and uses of mobility; only one of those fought Montreal Duran, and he lost. Floyd has been cornered by lesser men, and Duran is the superior inside craftsman.

You answered that one yourself,Chuckles. At welter,Leonard EASILY outpoints Mayweather.Floyd does nothing better than Leonard at 147,except shoulder roll.Leonard beat a better 147 pounder that May in Benitez.

To judge the Duran that fought Benitez is ridiculous.Duran was past it at 154,which you already know, and the thread is about a fight with Mayweather at 147.You,and everyone else knows that because Duran lost to Kirkland Laing at 154.One simple question. Can you honestly state that the Duran that beat Leonard in Montreal would have lost to Kirkland Laing?Just answer the question honestly.

Ray Arcel said that Duran was in the best shape he'd seen him since the DeJesus unification match before the Benitez fight.
