Got into a long discussion with my old boss earlier today and he was saying floyd now is reminding him of RJJ before he lost. Usual floyd stinks his guy out of the ring without absorbing any sort of damage and now all the sudden he wants to "give the fans a rough and exciting fight", it isn't consistent.

My response was maybe floyd did that so he gave the fans one last rock em sock em fight for his fans to remember him by because if he doesn't get pacquiao he probably won't fight anyone any more....

I could be giving floyd too much credit but I actually think he could have made it a boring fight but thats my opinion....

    what do you think?

If Floyd could have made it easy he would have done it, but he couldn't. Cotto brought the fight to him. Whenever Floyd was on his bike Cotto cut him off and made him fight. This is what they call damage control.

No what fighter wants to get into a fire fight if his boxing skills can avoid that ..Don't beleive that for a second and it would also discredit Cotto's effort ..

Yes i think he could of backed off alot more than he did, Not to say Cotto wouldnt of given him just as hard a ride, infact it may of helped Cottos game plan. But yeah he could of been more defensive.

I don't believe it. He's been cornered repeatedly throughout his career. He may have made the decision to stand against the ropes at times for strategic reasons, but only because it was either 1. more efficient and effective than scurrying away while Cotto chases, and 2. because Cotto consistently pushed him there and cut off the exits.

I believe that Mayweather takes the most rational strategic course of action he can and Cotto has never had a fight in which he hasn't won or busted his opponent up a little bit, including Pacquiao and Mayweather, who are not gods and cannot make every fight easy regardless of their caliber. And fighters who are put up on a ridiculously high pedestal feel the need to bull**** everyone when they don't completely dominate the underdog, even in clear victory. And I believe that is just plain silly, but the way it is. They find a way to deal with unrealistic expectations, appeasing their fans, who have those expectations, with remarks like this. They may even delude themselves into it. It doesn't make it true.

Of course you do. If Floyd said the tooth fairy was real you'd believe it.

a little of both. I do remember at times where it felt like Floyd purposely just went to the ropes. I also remember times where Cotto kept backing him up there and kept him trapped pretty well

I dont think he took punishment he didnt need to take, i think against a very good fighter he took what punishment he had to take to put forward his own more offensive than usual game plan.
