It will be great to see a 2 minutes fight resume in the day after. Hope will be 2 entertaining minutes...for a regular boxing fan like me.
Good point. Bute is the only one in that division that he NEEDS to fight, were looking at #1 and #2 here, especially after Bute kicks Froch's ass... Dawson needs to take someone out that doesnt have an aarp card (rematch with Pascal being the obvious choice) while Ward dispatches Bute, then make the fight. Ward's stock would rise through the roof after that
This is a fight I've been looking forward to for a couple of years. I'm glad it's happening, although I am surprised Ward is taking it. He could've easily just beat up on bums while he waited for Bute. However, nothing is guarenteed in this sport. Who knows if Bute will even win. If you have a good fight like this in front of you, you should take advantage. No more of this "let it build" nonsense. We saw how that backfired in regards to Kirkland/Angulo and Gamboa/Lopez. Neither one of these guys have taken a soft touch in the last few years, good to see them continue that trend.
I guess people are forgetting that Bute and Froch have a rematch clause? You can't expect ward to sit around waiting for these two. Dawson imo is the hardest fight out there for ward. We haven't seen him in there with a slick guy like Dawson who he won't be able to just outbox not only that Dawson is big and long.
This is a good fight. I'm not sure what Ward's tactics will be, but I imagine it will involve smothering his opponent. Personally if I was Ward, I would try to utilize BHOP's gameplan, but with more activity. A younger BHOP would have beat Dawson. As long as he keeps his activity level at least even with Dawson, but manages to land the harder punches, he'll win the fight, but it will be close. I suppose he could grapple Dawson and I guess he could win by doing that, but it will be an ugly fight and Dawson may have too much strength, but I doubt it.
I did forget about that... Im just talking best case scenario anyway, either way I hope it gets made. Who you like pimp??
The result will depend on the judges. Look at those who scored Ward-Froch: 115-113 for 2 of them. We haven't seen the same fight. And now look at the scores of Ward=Bika: too generous in favor of Ward in a clear victory. It seems some judges like his style and "appreciate" what he's doing while others don't. The choice of the judges could be a major factor in a Ward-Dawson fight.
:nod On another note, that Froch rematch clause is one-way, Bute isn't "tied up" with Froch for another fight if he wins. Bute will be available in September and Showtime will be cursing after the fact that the Ward-Bute fight still can't be made... with Bute probably fighting BHop on Epix in Montreal.
You seem to forget, although we tell you every time, that Bute is the only one to have a rematch clause. And if Ward didn't want to sit and wait for Bute, he could have faced him first. You can't say to your opponent: you have to face someone else first and then say I won't wait for you because you have another fight. I'm sure you're smart enough to understand that. It's his right to go for Dawson but if he does that, he'll do skip Bute (I hope you appreciate my choice of word here, no ducking or even avoiding, skip ). Dawson is a very tough fight indeed for Ward. His reach and other attributes will make it difficult to do what he wants like he's used to. On the other hand, Dawson is not able to adjust in a fight so Ward has his chances. It's an intriguing fight. Still, Ward-Bute first makes more sense. I think Ward's promoter knows it. He'll wait for the Froch-Bute fight before signing anything with Dawson. He'll have a nice pair of potential fights in his hands, that will help him to negociate the right thing for Ward.
I love Ward's brand of confidence. It's not about thinking and saying other fighters aren't anything special or talking up anything outlandish about his own game. It's just about ''Yes, I know at this level everybody brings something of value in a fight but I believe that whatever it is I can work it out and get the win." I like that. He's a very mature young fighter with genuine confidence. Not that psyching yourself up with trash kind. The real kind. The kind that holds up under pressure.
