the fight with augustus was the only fight where you can say without question that floyd was beaten up. augustus was punished much more, but floyd took hellacious, flush shots. it was a war. neither cotto or castillo it floyd with as much as augustus.

Floyd is a "boxer". Swarming is the hardest for him. He's able to limit its effectiveness with his own great inside fighting skills and clinch mastery, but it still tough.

    Cotto
    Castillo
    Augustus

Castillo was closer on the scorecards, but Mayweather looked more busted up against Cotto.

Edit: I overlooked the damage done by Augustus. It's an extremely close race.

The great thing is that there are arguments for all three of them.

I'd love to see most or all of the people voting back their choices up by sparking the debate in the thread.

Especially those picking "other", curious to hear devil's advocate or earnest cases made for say DLH outranking the three given options.

any attempt at legitimately claim dlh outranks any of the three is laughable from my point of view. dlh gave him fits with the jab for stretches, but augustus took the fight to floyd, often times "outslicked" him and hit him at relative will. Both cotto and castillo had more success than de la hoya against him as well.

looking at the poll results makes me believe not many people who voted have seen the augustus fight.

Damn good thread, IB. As soon as I made my selection, I second guessed it.

Castillo was close on the scorecards and at Mayweather's best weight.

Augustus was physically punishing as he was moving up but still young.

Cotto was recent and saw Floyd pushed the hardest in years, possibly ever.

IMO Castillo, DLH, Cotto for overrall fight perfomances and pushing Floyd consistently throughout most of their fights

STOP THE FIGHT! Floyd/Cotto should have been stopped either in round 8 when Cotto was snapping FLoyd's head back on the ropes, or round 12 when Floyd made Cotto do a lil stanky leg. . .

It often gets overlooked. I did it and consider Augustus one of my all-time favorite gatekeeper/journeyman fighters.

That fight, as well as a few others, always makes me wonder what Augustus could have become with some decent management.

I actually think Jesus Chavez needs to be included on this list. :deal

Jesus inflicted a bit of facial damage and won a couple of rounds before his corner decided that he had absorbed one too many uppercuts for his trouble. Cotto may have won his rounds more clearly, Castillo may have made the fight closer on the cards, and Augustus may have inflicted a bit more damage, but Chavez is certainly in the discussion, imo.
