You haven't shot down anything. Margarito was just on the biggest non-Pac/Floyd PPV of the year after having his ass kicked in two straight fights. Ortiz will never be on a show that big unless he's facing Floyd or Manny (not to mention that neither Morales nor Alvarez have ever headlined cards that sold that well either).

 

Canelo was on the Ortiz undercard?

 

Mayweather didn't become a star until his Hoya fight, either though.

Gratz, great numbers for PBF and Cotto. Well done.

But 50/50 is the way to go vs Pac still.

 

Cotto-Mayorga from the same year did so poorly that no numbers were ever released. The combination of the two guys probably accounts for the success above all else, but acting like Cotto alone was the reason seems inaccurate.

I just find it truly amazing how a defensive fighter who was perceived as I quote a runner, chicken, boring, coward, feather fisted, fraud and a ducker could hold the two biggest non heavyweight bouts in boxing history. When you look at someone like bernard hopkins for example he couldn't sell you bottled water on a summer's day. What floyd has done is a phenomenal achievement and took years to get to this point.

 

Pacquiao hasn't KO'ed anyone lately and Bradley has the skillset to give Manny some problems.

2) pac fought a version of margarito exposed as a cheater and beat down by mosley.
- with a **** undercard.

3) may-ortiz did 100,000 more buys only

Again, being in an apparent fight of the year candidate does not make you a draw. Ask Williams and Martinez about that. Margarito is still undeniably a bigger name than Ortiz is even today and it's not close. The more natural comparison in terms of opponent stature is Ortiz and Clottey, though again that probably doesn't fit in with your bias.
