To Sergio, the most important facet of the sport is not the punches thrown or the stronger man, No! its intelligence, movement and yet above all else, he places the mental aspect of the game.

The struggles Sergio has had from Argentina to Spain and finally the U.S. no fancy backing no top notch promoter, chasing a dream the hard way.

No ducking opponents, no easy touches, Yet against the odds he has made it on talent and hard work!

A talent that has yet to be promoted correctly. We are among one of the greats and yet so many casual fans are unaware, simply because he doesnt speak the language....

I just hope before Martinez retires he gets the oppurtunity to fight for and become the #1 P4P FIGHTER in the world its his dream and he truly deserves it.

So do I, but honestly, I don't think he will.

I can also see an argument that he doesn't deserve it, when compared to those who have given almost their entire lives to this sport.

He had his life defining moment the night of the Williams re-match. Most don't get that, so don't feel bad for him.

You don't even like Sergio, because of the Williams re-match and Pavlik's whipping. I can see where you wouldn't feel bad for a guy you don't like.

I can't feel too bad for a man who makes $1M+ every time he fights. But I do think he should be a bigger name given his performances in recent years. He never should've moved up to the "whogivesa****" 160 division and at 154 could've gotten some money fights against Cotto, Kirkland, Canelo, and most of all Mayweather.

Exactly, how many other top p4p fighters would get away with fighting domestic level fighters? I like Sergio, and I want to see him in big fights. However, he's getting paid millions to headline HBO cards where his opponents are 20-1 underdogs. It seems like he has a pretty good deal going to me.

He is a late bloomer like Hopkins was at 36 and see where Hopkins got, got to be a LEGEND. Sergio doesn't need to get back to 154 to fight the Alvarez/ the Cottos and so on and even though he was very lucky/smart to cut Pavlik's face and win big those championship rounds when kelly knocked him down out of balance and was getting back to it, Martinez footwork and skillset/handpeed/accuracy did the rest. Ever since he has proved to be the main man at 160. Forget about Sturm, he was robbed once in the USA so Sergio is not going to go to Germany to get robbed there either. I do hope he gets a proposal from Mayweather if this Manny fight doesn't come out and if Sergio feels comfortable and surely motivated back again at that weight class. Good payday, huge spotlight, the beggining or not of a super-career.

And at 38 years old? Most boxers at that age would kill to be in Sergio's position.
