Lots of world class fighters (look it up) thru 3 weight divisions, absolutely dominating all but 1 fighter (Meldrick Taylor, who he beat in the fight of the decade for the 90s) going 87-0 until the Whitaker fight before his decline.

He has a solid argument for being best ever in 2 of those divisions (130 & 140) & holds the record for most title defences in history, 34 (or thereabouts)

Chavez is as good a choice as any fighter, Whitaker included.

    Crazy talk.

Chavez started at 130 lbs & looked great in the 130, 135 & 140 lbs classes but not quite the same fighter at 147 lbs.

Whitaker started at 135 lbs & looked great in the 135, 140 & 147 lbs classes but not quite the same fighter at 154 lbs.

Its nothing to do with Chavez being a physical fighter, if anything that would be a bad thing for him vs the naturally bigger man in the higher weight class, surely.

Chavez is better than hopkins, Jones is more arguable due to his incredible peak but for me Chavez was better than Jones as well.

Whitaker was never the same fighter after '98 because he was on the damned crackpipe after all the cash he made with Delahoya.

I'd agree Pernell and Chavez are the top 2 in the last 25 years.
