I thought Pac won the 3rd fight and the 1st could go either way, but he was outboxed in all 3 fights. Bernard Hopkins is better than any of the Mexican trio James Toney is better than any of the Mexican trio. Beating Ruiz is more historically significant than anything Pac has done.
We don't know that for sure. Jones had Griffin down in round 7, then Griffin came out and bossed Jones again in round 8. Jones got outboxed, and was losing that fight. Re-watch it, Griffin fought a great fight that night.
The 3rd fight is a curious case. Many ESB-members gets furious if you suggest Pac edged it. Personally I think Pac landed a bit more. But anyway ... I respect you have a different opinion, but saying he was "outboxed" if he did enough to win/draw feels like a complete ESB-mumbo jumbo argument to me. Like when people rip Hopkins saying he hide at MW and stuff like that. Or when they rip Ali's resume. I just dont think it is legit. If you think Jones have better top wins thats fine. Hopkins is a good example to point at. I still think Pac's crazy run against top opponents is more impressive. Ruiz is an average fighter. It was a good win, but it would have been more impressive if Jones fought some of the Europeand top dogs at his natural weight. It does not surpass Pacs accomplishments.
He didn't boss him lol. Roy laid on the ropes and let him bang away. By the end of the round before the stoppage, Roy had already closed the gap on the scorecards. It was an even fight and Griffin was ready to go.
Roy Jones has so many more losses, it's hard to put him ahead of Pacquiao, especially seeing as Pacquiao is still an active fighter at the top of his game.
When was the last time you watched the fight!? Jones laid on the ropes because he was getting backed up, because he couldn't set up his offence against Griffin, who was countering him. As I said, Jones scored a KD in round 7, and Griffin still came out and bossed him in round 8. You say Griffin was ready to go, but he still had the awareness and composure to choose to take a knee. A fighter who is going, is on pure instinct and just covers up and lays against the ropes, maybe throwing a few wide punches. So to answer the original question, yes Roy Jones did get outboxed in his prime. If he'd stepped into the ring with a prime Eubank, Collins, Michaelczewski or Calzaghe, we may well have seen it happen again.
It can also be added that Jones aint no Floyd Mayweather. If he is on the ropes it's not part of a strategy, it's just beeing pressured.
prepare for an asskicking from the Turbofag. Whenever Turbofag smells a pacquiao name, he just jumps on you and cry: *******!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Roy Jones: Impressive speed and reflexes. Wins over Toney, green Hopkins and a bunch of mediocre boxers. Manny Pacquiao: Impressive attacking skills. Wins over Barrera, Marquez, Margarito, old Mosley. The dominant win over a prime Barrera could be just as impressive as Jones' win over Toney. And the rest of Manny's resume is better. Pacquiao wins. :deal
What the hell? If that's an outboxing you must have had Marquez beating Paquiao handily in all 3 fights then right?
No one can deny that Roy was taking over that fight, Griffin went down to a knee because he was hurt, and about to get knocked out otherwise.. His awkward style did give Roy fits, but Roy would clearly be ahead on all scorecards after the second knockdown, if Griffin would have ever recovered in the first place.
In my mind, what Roy did to Griffin in the second fight, dismisses the DQ loss as a fluke, simply an off night with an awkward fighter.
