I'm pretty sure Byron Mitchell hurt him some. Credit to Calzaghe's powers of recovery that he knocked Mitchell out in the same round.

Roy Jones TKO in the mid rounds.

Roy was a banger at 168, much more so than at 175.

yeah, out of the fighters that knocked joe down, i think mitchell hurt him the most, but thats joe calzaghe for you, whenever he faced adversity he proved time and time that it brought the very best out of him, he never held mitchell once and got up and met fire with fire.

some fighters fold like a lawnchair when faced with adversity and some fighters find the fire to raise they're performance at the most critical time, it seperates the men from the boys.

You're talking about one punch. watch the fight, the timing of his punches is nearly entirely different. the handspeed is not the same, so he shortens those elaborate punches. it was an old geezer fight, but as I suggested earlier, don't tell me the 34 year old Calzaghe wouldn't have beaten the 27 year old calzaghe. for Jones, it was the other way around.

i won't get into the drugs argument, because I understand libel law.

Jones speed and power knocks Calzaghe down in the first rounds. In the mid rounds Calzaghe adapts and wins a couple of rounds.

Calzaghe the begins to get comfortable but becomes wreckless and Jones proceeds to knock him down again and then knocks him out.

Calzaghe was better at 34 than he was at 27 IMO, you're absoloutley right. He couldn't punch as hard but his style really was perfect when it came to winning decisions, he gave judges every reason to score for him.

After Jones had fought Tarver and Johnson, he fought totally devoid of any confidence, unless he fought a corpse like Sheika or Lacy. After the Lacy fight then fought cocky against Danny Green and got caught for it.

just re-watching round 3 in that calzaghe - jones fight bailey and its a thing of beauty, i think thats how the fight between the 2 would have always played, with calzaghe getting off 1st, with calzaghe upsetting roys rythme, fighting at a pace that roy couldn't handle, with calzaghe being able to adapt better with a greater ring IQ, with the ability to fight like a real warrior when faced with adversity.

roy jones might have looked great against the likes of talesco and pazienza when juiced to the eyeballs but calzaghe would have always had his number. imagine the damage calzaghe would have done on jones if he was fighting without bad hands, in his prime years, fighting at home, at his natural weight :patsch

I havent said anything in regards to drugs but asked if it would make a difference.
If you look at the two footages shown the hand speed doesnt look very different at all, Im sure there is a difference, but its not noticeable.
The point I made of round 6 was pointing Jones was still throwing power shots he tried throughout but was shut down alot by Calzaghe. Look at round 4 or round 3, Jones was trying to throw them throughout, some got through some didnt

By round 3 Calzaghe had worked Jones out and you are right, Calzaghe upset Jones style with his jerky kind of style, he applied his own rythme and Jones couldnt time him. Calzaghe would have kept Jones on the ropes all night.
Just look at Jones first fight with M Grffin who backed Jones to the ropes and corners. Griffin was ahead on one card before the DQ ending and Calzaghe, is bigger, stronger, faster and a better boxer than Griffin

It's a shame that Jones fouled and got DQ'd, Griffin may well have outboxed him all the way, and claimed a victory that even Roy's most ardent fan boys couldn't deny.

When you're the so called p4p number one and you're fighting a guy whose own mother doesn't even rank in the top 100 it's quite easy to avoid your Chin getting Shattered.
