Round 9 seemed like a pretty clear Floyd round. Floyd landed clean shots. Most of Cotto's shots were smothered. Floyd created seperation and landed some good punches, Cotto got in a few body shots, but nothing authoritative to take away Floyd's clean work that round. Close round though I could see a draw.
Cotto landed the most crisp effective jabs and body punches in this round than any other. What did Floyd do? Couple of jabs and body shots to the stomach, partially blocked right hooks/uppercuts and one flush right hand.
I agree with round 3 to Cotto. Thought Cotto nicked it on fight night and rewatching the fight tonight. 4-1 after 5 rounds for Mayweather is right.
You're right on the money and I also gave Cotto round 9!!! Unlike the Commentators I didn't score for punches hitting the gloves. Unlike the judges pre-fight narrative to ensure a Mayweather victory for a potentially mega payday with Pacquiao.... Cotto won the fight.....as USA Today scored a win for Cotto I did as well. Steward always leans towards the black fighter no matter who he is... I always acknowledged it and when he trained Cotto I was interested in how he would comment....he's careful with his words but cannot help himself either!!!! Commentators had their heads so far up Merryweather's ass it wasn't even funny.... No wonder boxing is losing interest!!!
If you add up the clean effective punches that you speak of. Even roughly estimate them and youll have the same landed for each, likely more for Cotto. Thats a FACT my friend. Again i have to spell it out for you. Ur welcome :good
I challenge you to watch it and score it minute by minute. Some judges (pro and otherwise) break rounds down into 3 one minute pieces. It can help in competitive fights. I would challenge you to even tell me which minute Cotto won of that round, but as I can see your mind is made up. :yep
The reason Merryweather had to stand and fight is because Cotto would not allow him to move....he would stop him with his arms from moving to either side!!! Also, Cotto was very efficacious in cutting off the ring!!!
I don't know if he "gave them away". He had to know better than that. But yes, he lost the first four with out question.

Cotto didnt give away anything. Floyd was fresh, and on his toes. Cotto couldnt corner a fresh Floyd who is on his toes. When Floyd started getting a little winded as 35 year olds in boxing tend to do, he was able to corner him and get some work in. When Cotto wilted after giving Floyd his best shot, Floyd who always finishes strong, got his second wind and once again was able to get on his toes and dominate the fight. Saying Cotto just gave away rounds is laughable and disrespectful to the kind of fighter Floyd is.
Genaro G gave an excellent unbiased view the fight. Only round I disagree with is 9, and 9 wasnt a Floyd wipe out and was farely close, even though I feel Floyd landed clearly the cleaner blows. Excellent analysis.
