How much did the Cotto fight hurt Mayweather's rep?

Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by NewBoxingOrder, May 13, 2012.

  1. Watching this fight sealed it for me that he's the best fighter of our generation by a long way. I can not conceive of anybody beating him. He simply does not get clean enough to get knocked out and punchs are usually on his gloves, shoulder or forearm.
Cotto put up a hell of a fight, well done to him. He was soundly beaten.
    It wasn't close.

Styles make fights. I think it elevated Floyd a bit. He showed he can fight, take a shot, and not run so much. In addition it showed if he actually fights he can get a lump or too.

Floyd put a beating on Cotto.

A 'bloody' nose and lip.. are you serious? This is boxing, if anything this just proves how good Mayweather in that you rarely ever see that from him.

Cotto did damage to Pac's face, sorry a WEIGHT DRAINED Cotto did damage to Pac's face.. and Marquez BEAT Pac in the last fight, whilst Floyd put a 'beat down' on him.. what does that tell you.

whenever the lazy non working mayweather fans wake up and search for posts of their hero, they will once again see i support mayweather when he is being blatantly trolled and when he is being discredited where he deserves credit... anyone who thinks cotto won is seriously delusional

floyd did exactly what he said he would, go toe to toe with miguel cotto.. if anyone could beat floyd it was cotto (especially at hes weight of 154 where mayweather has only ventured once before and not looked great).

he stood toe to toe with cotto and traded, gave the fans what they wanted. but if you step in the shower, you are going to get wet. that being said he's face dident look that bad at all for the type of fight he was in .. going to show you how well he is at rolling and defending cottos punches

i personly have only watched the fight once (live) and i gave cotto 4 rounds, frankly i believe floyd when he said if he wanted to box on the outside it would have been an easy victory for him. i was yelling at the tv at times, floyd would just slowly back pedal into the corner and sit there.. dont get me wrong sometimes cotto PUT floyd there but way to many times floyd willingly went there and stayed there for alot longer then he could have/should have

i wouldent advise using the same strategy against pacquiao because thats exactly where he wants you and he seems to have some freakish power

floyd - 43-0 ... and i wouldent even say cotto gave us a blueprint

His second fight at 154 his whole career...fighting again the number one guy or one of the number one guys...stands his ground with him...takes the shots from the full fledge 154 pounder....wins all but maybe 3 or 4 rounds equals Floyd losing respect???????

Because Floyd fought fair fight...no Plaster...no weight drain!!!

  12. We all know Mayweather could have cruised to an easy victory by not slugging it out with Cotto. Instead he sent a messege to Manny Pacquiao and to the boxing media. That not only did he beat a 154 Cotto, he beat Cotto toe to toe. Mayweather was impressive. No catchweight tricks. Cotto is no longer undefeated, he has one loss against Mayweather Jr and now, Cotto has no excuse but to accept a legit defeat.

  15. That fight only helped Mayweather and his claims of greatness.

It's amazing to me how many people saw a completely different fight. I think the LA Times had some UFC fan scoring rounds.
