What prime version of any fighter would you consider unbeatable?

    Ali. HW is one of the least deep historical divisions and if you want to approach the matter strictly, I'd say Ali. He's the furthest ahead of the best in his division. But the division scores two outstanding pressure fighters, Rocky and Frazier and some outstanding punchers.

    But Ali would be my pick.

    impulsively I would say the perfect Tyson, Joe Louis or SRR and the like...

    but in reality the first step (1) - before approaching any sort of GUESS would be first off questioning said fighters 'IF' by chance they ducked or were protected from any one fighter(s).

    (2) - secondly you'd have to list Era's & periods in proper order to compare potential candidates, before considering who "might" be the True best among them...

    and lastly, (3) - "as I've always stated" Boxing History would then have been rewritten.
    So it's IMPOSSIBLE to say in absolute!!!

    the Best ARE Many, and among the True Top there is little too not much between Great fighters, FACT!!!

    The probability of flipping a head is 50/50 in theory but in practice a hundred tails in a row would eventually be flipped.

    Definitely, as mcgrain rightly said, there are far too many variables to expect any man to go through a division's gauntlet and emerge unbeaten.

    Whilst I wouldn't expect any individual smw to beat jones, the reality is that there are plenty who would.

    Ironically I think haye matches up pretty well h2h throughout history, most natural athletes do.

    We'll see how Haye does against G$ora, before I make a true judgement on his Heavyweight H2H abilities. Although I do acknowledge, most of his Cruiser opponents would've classed as decently sized Heavyweights in the '60s & earlier.

    Tyson '86-'89 and '91 most unbeatable fighter in history. No one is quick enough, or have enough power, and technically sound. Ali and maybe RJJ maybe come closest to Tyson-prime imo. Best combo of chin, speed, power, and boxing mastery (to compliment his natural strengths and instincts).

    In his second outing in 1986 Mike was troubled briefly by Mike Jameson, who would become his best scalp after Jameson was stopped despite his protests in the fifth. In his very next fight he was extended to the sixth by an opponent who was disqualified in the sixth for excessive holding (later altered to a 6th round TKO, inexplicably).

    I have a sneaking suspicion that prime Muhammad Ali would have done ok with this guy.

    HW - Muhammad Ali TKO3 Cleveland Williams (1966)

    SMW - Roy Jones Jr W12 James Toney (1994)

    MW - Sugar Ray Robinson TKO13 Jake Lamotta (1951)

    WW - Sugar Ray Leonard TKO8 Roberto Duran (1980)

    LW- Roberto Duran TKO12 Esteban Dejesus (1979)

    FW - Salvador Sanchez TKO14 Danny Lopez (1980)

    What about Ali against Doug Jones? He was stunned several times & I didn't even think he actually won.*
