    No.
It is a one-fight deal with an optional rematch clause exclusively for Bute (i.e. if he loses in a close match against Froch, he might activate the clause for a rematch in Québec). That is not a two-fight deal.

LE: OK, I'm not even the second. :)

Well if im Goosen im looking at that deal as a 2 fight deal because its not garunteed that Bute will win ..Why wouldn't Ward take on another fight ? And Dawson is more of test than Bute is any way so don't see what the issue is ..He's staying busy and fighting the best Light Heavyweight on the planet ..Bute has has hands full so ,I can't knock him for going after Chad ..Maybe Bute fans will but not the rest of us !

So its a two fight deal bc he is not just going to walk away and not try and avenge his loss if that happened. :patsch

Ward is looking to fight in Sep/Oct. Bute will be available. Since they don't need to rush the contract signing or anything, Goossen could just wait until he receives an offer from Interbox after Bute-Froch... then see who between Shaw & Interbox put the most money on the table. It wouldn't hurt negotiations for Ward-Dawson, like I said there's no rush we're still 4 months out from Sep. If Goossen & Shaw get the deal signed & sealed before Bute-Froch however, it just gives the wrong impression to boxing fans i.e. why not wait to see how bad Bute wants to fight ya?! And for more money.......

    :hey

Just stop saying there is a 2 fights deal and everything will be ok. Ward chose not to fight Bute after the super 6. He has the right to want to fight Dawson instead, even if it frustrates me.

As much as I would like to see Bute vs. Ward after Bute vs. Froch I must say this fight makes sense to me. Props to Ward (& Chad too) for pursuing this fight. In my book this ain't ducking no. 2 for Ward.

Even if Bute had not the rematch clause, would Ward face him if he lost to Froch? No. The rematch clause changes nothing.

Anyway, Ward had Bute calling him and saying he would fight him in Oakland. Ward is the one not wanting the fight, at least now.

Neither was granted Ward's victory over Bika outside of S6, that was still not seen as impediment for that fight being made (and potentially assuming the risk of taking out the WBA belt from the tournament). Generally, you can't take anything for granted, but you can guesstimate some probabilities and make some realistic strategies. The bookmakers still have Bute as favorite over Froch, that means there are good arguments to think it's more probable to have to deal effectively with one fight. Were I Goosen and interested only by having made a good match for Ward, I would have stayed tuned with Bute at least until May 26th (there is not so much time left after all), and if the less probable outcome realizes (i.e. Froch wins) I would still have Dawson's team phone on my agenda.

The issue is to test yourself against the best of your base weight category in order to set the record straight in the ring. Of course, Ward may chose any career path he wants, but that would be very odd for true boxing fans who want to know (and he is aware of their desire) who is actually the best SMW (a notion which is not synonymous with "the highest ranked SMW") before knowing who is the best fighter among a heterogeneous list expanding over two or more divisions of weight, eventually at some intermediate catchweight. Out of that, if he doesn't fight Bute he leaves room for doubt.

Just wait May 26th and see what happens next.

So it is an one fight deal with a rematch clause. Unless the less probable event realizes, there will be no rematch. If you keep labeling this as a two-fight deal, you just don't account for the most probable outcome of the May 26th match and that's plainly wrong.

Stay tuned ? This isn't a wait and see game ..Legends build legacies by fighting frequently and often against the best ..Not going to question this decision considering who he's opting to fight . I really question those odds makers ,don't see how Bute is the favorite..

Bute hasn't won that fight yet ..

Do you even know how this fight even plays out ? What if Bute ends up getting cut or injured ? Ward can't take that chance once he had his fight locked up with Froch .He did the right thing by going after Dawson..

This fight will be at 168 ..I believe Chad would agree to come down ..

Hold up whats the most probable out come ? Bute winning is that what your saying ?

I think that in itself is wrong since Bute hasn't proved that he could beat Froch yet so really how can you assume what is right and wrong ?I'm also taking into account that they could take the decision from Bute considering its in Froch's backyard ..

If you were Goossen you would've stayed less then 10 feet away from the ring and see Miranda being faceplanted in the 3rd round; the same Miranda that was on Ward's building legacy and allowed him to get a shot at Mikkel Kessler's belt.
Bute - Ward was the expected matchup since Ward beat Kessler in 2009, don't try to make it sound like this fight is expected only by Bute's fans.
I cannot knock Ward for going after Dawson either, but if papers are signed before 26th of may it would only mean Goossen fears the outcome; there are only 12 days till then and the Dawson-Ward fight is in the books for September.
About Ward-Dawson, let's remember there are patterns to beat Dawson, Pascal showed one, Hopkins showed some weaknesses that Chad has; i expect Ward to triumph over Dawson both at 168 and 175.
IMO Bute is more dangerous than Dawson simply if we only take in account the power of his counter punching.
