What prime version of any fighter would you consider unbeatable?

:-( Unbeatable? Not 'who am I a fan of'.

 

Monzon, obviously.

 

Hard one to call. Even the best were human.

 

No-one is unbeatable, and no one's best version could defeat anyone in history. Boxing is too deep.

We can only speculate, but the best night of Robinson's career he must have been a frightening proposition. You're talking about an already special fighter's perfect storm -- physically top notch, mental make-up perfect, his skillset polished and honed.

Even so, if every fighter that fought him had on average a one-in-twenty-five chance of beating him, he's already without a chance, since in my opinion there are way over 25 boxers that would have a one-in-twenty-five chance of beating him.

None should be outright favored to win, however.

I think you could argue that Schmelling beat Louis in his prime.

Mayweather at super feather. Only De la Hoya could beat him there and I still doubt he would.

Robinson at WW is certainly arguable.

Pea/Duran at lightweight. Dont see anyone else beating these accept for each other. The winner would be considered unbeatable at lightweight IMO.

Jones JR at middleweight is certainly considerable, although the likes of SRR, Hagler, monzon and maybe Hearns (if he lands the big shot) all have a chance to beat him. At Light Heavy there's no way you could call him unbeatable. The likes of Moorer, Spinks, Charles, Tunney etc where simply in a different class to what Jones actually faced.

Cruiserweight, Holyfield Nuff said.

At heavyweight I think Ali is the only one you could argue for. There's just simply to many great heavyweights to beat them all H2H

 

Mayweather beats any version of De la Hoya.

It is arguable, though I would give Sugar Ray Leonard and Tommy Hearns a good shot. Also Montreal Duran would push Robinson hard (styles make fights).

I would put Floyd Mayweather and Aaron Pryor in that category.

In fact I would favour all the guys you just mentioned to beat Jones at MW (except maybe Monzon).

I think you could argue that FOTC Joe Frazier beats any version of Ali. I would also give prime Lennox Lewis a good chance.

 

Like you say no fighter is unbeatable but I'd go for Olivares between 68 - 70 as being pretty close to it.

 

You don't think anyone weighing between 180-200lbs could beat Cruiser Holy?

 

Best pick so far, for me.
Many of the other divisions are too deep, especially the original eight, for any one guy to be unbeatable. But Holyfield at cruiserweight could well be that man.

 

Well, if you put it that way...but I'm thinking of guys who actually fought in the division.

 

The SRR I saw live in the '40s wasn't unbeatable; he was INCOMPARABLE!

 

At Bantam weight Joltin' Jeff is as close as there is to sure thing!
