Not fighting is not going to make you the GOAT though.
Floyds career the last 5 or 6 years or so are theoretical matchups that he should win anyway.

You can not base a career on "he would beat him anyway", he needs to actually fight them.

I never said I consider FMJ GOAT, I don't not even close, but I do stand by any boxer nowadays (not necessarily FMJ) will be unfairly downrated in comparison to former greats.

And no, Im not saying that arguing for an earlier ERA fighter as being the GOAT is incorrect, you can feel free to argue for whomever you want.

Beating Pacquiao is good in preception, but in reality. He needs to become the man at 154 and 160. There is no one he can't beat at 147. While I wouldn't go as far as to call a fight with Pacquiao a farce like the one with Cotto is. There is a reason Pacquiao balked at this fight. There is a reason Arum is not doing his part to make it happen as well.

With his Partnership with Golden Boy, Mayweather should have fights with Cotto, Alvarez and Kirkland at 154. While he should beat all three. They are all younger and in the case of Alvarez and Kirkland stronger than Mayweather. A fight with Martinez is possible at 154 but would be better at 160.

At 160 Mayweather should fight Martinez, that is if Martinez is still the man by the time Mayweather moves up to 160. He'll fight Cotto in May either Alvarez or Kirkland in December or January. Than the other in June 2013. By than I suspect that Martinez will be on the tail end of his being great. The real threats to Mayweather will come from Golovkin and Quillin.

    Cotto -> Pac -> Martinez (@154)

Dunno if he'd be considered the greatest as Cotto and Pac have faded slightly but visibly, and Martinez would be ancient by the time Floyd has fought Cotto and Pac but it sure would elevate him into the top 10.

although he is a great boxer he will never be 1 atg . the atg great fights any an all comers at any time he has fought a lot of great fighters problem is they were not great or past it when he fought them .If floyd had took certin fights when they were precived hot antonio when he was hot at welter ,or when floyd was hot 130 an shane shreading lw divison, kosta at jw or was in mix when shane an oscar did work or maybe fought the viper pre mayorga an to be fair those were not all his fault politics promoters egos all factor in an fact is to be best got to have fought them all not nececerly beat them all. he will always be looked at as superior boxing ability no doubt but his tactics in opponet chosing will always be questioned

If he wants to be the greatest of all time then he has to do something amazing. So he has to fight more often than Sugar Ray Robinson (15 times a year would do it), he has to fight ward at 175, he needs to fight overseas like Ali did,he needs to knock Pacquiao out.

Its not easy to be the GOAT.

Too late for the GOAT tag on Floyd.

I just might be FMJ biggest fan but I can never call a boxer who desires money over fighting the best around the GOAT (PERIOD).

He missed out on too many chances to face, and I'm almost 100% sure, beat the best comp during his post 2004(with Arum till 2006) years. He could have collected so many NEEDED wins if he just fought the higher ranked comp. (I do partly blame this on the Promoters and his greed)

FMJ is the best at it right now but the boxing as a whole is totally different from the GOAT era.

Stop with the "That's not how the structure works" Because if it worked back then against other fighters why wouldn't it work against Pac?
Stop with the I'm ok and my health comes first.
Give Pac what he deserves, Any decent offer with a PPV upside. Not a flat fee.
And beat Pac. He'd not be the GOAT but itll raise his name pretty damn high.

If Money Mayweather wants to be the G.O.A.T. or a Top 5... He needs to do the exact opposite, in regards to fighting Pacquiao or any fighter (i.e. Sergio Martinez) assumed to be HIS TOUGHEST TEST. Other wise he'll just be regulated to the ether... :D

He'll NEVER surpass Robinson. Ray Leonard is still around 10 spots away on the list from Robinson and he has wins over Benitez, Green, Duran, Thomas Hearns, and moved up to Middleweight after he came out of retirement and pulled a huge upset over the champ Marvin Hagler.

There is just no conceivable way he actually could. He'd have to beat Pac, beat Martinez, and maybe fight and beat the winner of Bute/Ward.

:deal tho a Lara victory would be just as good as an Alvarez one. Too bad Lara doesnt have the Canelo fanbase.
