Such a close call for me... Probably my top two liked fighters ever... DAMN YOU BILL!! If made to choose... I would go with Whitaker... He could simply could fight any style he needed to and get the job done against world class fighters. He beat more world class fighters with ease than Duran did, and didn't have a style that seemed to give him as much problems as some gave Duran. H2H... Don't get me started on that :)

    Six and half a dozen.

I think both would have had relatively equal careers if we give them only average world level attributes in everything we can agree isn't too related to classic\textbook boxing skill.

assuming we can pit them against a close to even field of opposition in terms of quality.

I don't think either would suffer much from only having average power(pea had it anyway more or less) but it would be interesting to see them both in with their own list of opponents, but with only an average chin and overall durability.

Bill - This is a really tough one mate :good

I'll stick my neck out and say Duran. That way he had of steaming forward and still avoiding most of his opponents punches.

I think Duran beats Whitaker at 135 and 147, and I think he is a greater fighter, but I'll still answer Whitaker to this particular question. In terms of skills, Whitaker had the best I've ever seen simply because he can do anything and everything in a way that (IMO) no-one else can. His versatility is off the charts. Who else have you ever seen infighting like in McGirt 1 and also jabbing/boxing off the back foot in the Nelson fight, and doing both to such a high standard against such quality comp? When styles and attributes are taken into consideration, Duran at his best was better, but purely in terms of skills I edge Whitaker, he was everything.

The first. Well, both I guess, but more so the first. I've decided to side with Duran though, but allow me to reiterate: ****.

WHITAKER is the answer here in a close call. As mentioned before, versatility ends up being the deciding factor. Put it this way, when you think about it, the key to any "style" is to be able to beat whoever is in front of you. The adaptability to be able to take advantage of any opponents weaknesses. Whitaker shows a greater ability to do a greater amount of necessary "things" to beat whoever was in front of him. One may argue that Duran had some bigger and more effective tools,(which is why some may pick duran head to head) but whitaker had MORE tools in his toolbox allowing him to handle more jobs. Thinking of it in this manner, one must say whitaker was the more skilled fighter. One of the best questions asked on this forum, by the way, IMO.

Love Duran but have to give the edge to Pea. Although I think Duran wins H2H.
