Lara will be going through 1 more eliminator fight before facing the winner of this fight, i think Lara will probably be on the undercard. It might be Lara vs Kirkland.
I wish they would put Canelo in with a name relevant to the top of 154, but can't blame then for picking Williams, he is there to be beaten and most people know him and his entertaining style.
That's if the WBC ever cares to make another eliminator at any point in the next six months. And of course, the question still remains why Lara should need to go through an eliminator at all when Williams did not and Lara is the one who both beat Williams already and actually shares a promoter with Alvarez.
Actually Williams-Lara was a WBC final eliminator. Lara then entered a semi-final eliminator with Hearns & won.
I don't recall the Williams-Lara fight being marketed as any kind of eliminator, and certainly not as a final eliminator, though I see the description on boxrec says "WBC Title eliminator." Regardless, the WBC themselves seem to be treating the "official" result the same way everyone else does, as Lara is still ahead of Williams in their own rankings. Thus, there is still no reason that Williams should get this fight before Lara or that Lara should have to go through yet another eliminator.
As an official result Willaims beat Lara, Lara might've got robbed but Williams has a 'W' next to his name & Lara doesn't. Williams then went on to beat Ishida, who beat James Kirkland, who was touted as the next fighter to fight Canelo but lost. So i think he deserves it.
Good fight. War for the ages and yes he's past prime but Williams knows how to bring action every fight. He really should have way more fans.
It would be a good fight and I'd be all for it. Probably the most fan friendly fight for Canelo other than Kirkland. No way does it do a million buys, though. If it did 200-300K, that would probably be pretty decent for him.
I've said it time and time again, GB won't let Canelo near Lara. They know their Ginger star would get exposed.
