there's actually a quote around where he says he hates the fighting but enjoys the chess aspect of boxing

throws a wrench into the gears of all these brawl loving blood and guts fan when the GOAT states the thinking aspect of the game is the best part

    I doubt it.

Somewhat related I remember Juan Carlos Gomez (Stopped by Vitali) saying he wanted to be a baseball player in Cuba but they chose boxing for him.

Yeah just watched in this corner, i was surprised aswell. I remember ali saying he hated training but the price for greatness outweighed the temporary pain of training.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Ali said the same thing.

Makes me think, training is a son of a *****, but boxers will do it because they have to. Most boxers have no other choice. Which is sad, but reality.

Rocky may have not be so hyped about it either.

    http://www.john-summers.net/marciano.html

Many probably didn't but found it as a way out. its largely a poor-man's sport.

Look at how many Irish, Jewish, Italian, Polish "American" fighters there were prior to WWII and then after.

I think you just need a reason to do it.

Its sucks though doing something you don't like. I hate it too. But if you have a good reason to do it, it helps.

It's great to enjoy what you are doing though. You lose track of time because you are in the moment full of energy.

Either Tyson or D'amato talked about doing something you hate like you love it.
I can't remember how it goes but it's around.

If not for the money, who loves getting smacked on the face anyway?

I would be a terrible boxer. I love hurting people, and sometimes I love being hurt as well. I think I am a bit like jake lamotta, I find getting my face beat in a pleasurable experience, and I also like to beat faces. I have dreams of getting into brawls and beating somebody until they stop breathing.

Masochist; and you really need to see a therapist. I use to love training, but sometimes I did not like it due to the sparring of certain individuals and how much more they outweighed me.
