How do you rate Sweet Pea - Pernell Whitaker all time p4p?

I seldom give credit to fighters without punch power but after seeing his win and avenge against Jose Luis Ramirez who won that LW title from terrence Ali and absolutely won in a robbery against Pernell, and a couple of other fights such as against Azumah Nelson, JCC and J C Vasquez, man, the guy was way above average boxing skills, flashy, cagey, smart, well rounded, incredible defense and very courageous.

 

I'm not sold on Whitaker being a better fighter or better defense. Whitaker's reign on top is not nearly as long nor do i think his defense is better. He got hit a lot more than Floyd has.

 

Whitaker was better at the following:

Jabbing
Boxing off the backfoot
Inside fighting
Punch output
Body-punching

He was every bit as good defensively - and keep in mind, he threw at a higher rate than Mayweather.

Whitaker also faced superior competition. Longevity doesn't factor in to peak ability, nor does it push somebody over another who faced superior competition and has a better resume. If lit did, Hopkins would be one of the top 10 fighters of all-time.

Whitaker is among the top 5 fighters I've ever seen at their best. As great as Mayweather is, he's not THAT great.

 

I don't agree with any of what you've listed except for punch output. Floyd got more names on his resume, more world title fights, more divisions, longer career and still going strong.

Floyd can throw every single type of punch and fight in all ranges. There is no flaws that offense or defense to really say that someone else does it better. Remember he holds the highest accuracy and least hit upon ratio by far.

I have the stats to prove it vcash and real cash that shows i pick winners are 75% and up ratio which is very hard to do period.

I don't think it's a big deal if people think Mayweather is better than Whitaker. They're both superb boxers. I personally prefer Whitaker due to his style -- he looks more fluid and spontaneous to me, and he takes chances and does flashy things in the ring to enjoy himself. Mayweather, on the other hand, is all business -- he's only concerned with winning, which is fair enough.

I do think Whitaker has a better jab, higher workrate and better bodypunching. Mayweather has faster hands, a better straight, and a more economical style. His punching form is particularly impressive to me -- his shots are always so crisp and sharp, and I never see him punching lazily. If the two of them could have fought, prime for prime, I favour Whitaker though.
