Anthony Mundine's campaign to break into the lucrative US boxing scene starts on Independence Day against 41-year-old Bronco McKart.

Kostya Tszyu's old manager Vlad Wharton has secured him the fight against McKart on July 4 in Las Vegas, which is expected to be shown live on ESPN with Mundine understood to have secured the Australian television revenue.
Mundine will reveal McKart as his next boxing opponent at a press conference at his Redfern gym on Thursday morning. The former world champion hasn't fought since a decision win over Rigoberto Alvarez last October.

"I just need to get over there and showcase my skills against a credible opposition so they start talking about me and I get a name and a following," Mundine said.
McKart is not the same calibre of fighter as Austin Trout, who Mundine refused to fight and was therefore stripped of his WBA interim junior middleweight title.

But McKart is nevertheless a recognisable name in US boxing circles and gives Mundine a platform with which to build his profile in the influential market.

McKart is nicknamed Superman. It would be a poetic statement by Mundine to take down Superman on America's most important day.
The US fight does not necessarily rule out a rematch with Danny Green later this year but it will depend on his result.

McKart is a seasoned veteran who fought and lost three times to defensive great Ronald "Winky" Wright. He has also lost to big names Kelly Pavlik and Roman Karmazin, although he has won three in a row.
"I'm just hanging out to prove what I can do in America," Mundine said. "These last six months have been the most frustrating of my career waiting for something to happen.
"I'm going to get over there and put on a show which will hopefully lead to a shot at one of the big guys."

Mundine turns 37 next week and has a record of 43 wins and four losses.
McKart is 54-9-1 (32KO) but struggles against speed and robust defence, which are Mundine's two great strengths.
Mundine said US titleholder Trout knocked back career-best money when the pair negotiated.

"I offered him twice the amount he'd got in his whole career but he wanted to go to purse bid," Mundine said. "I'm not going to sell myself short and get robbed by a guy who just barely became champion and then if I beat him I still won't get the credit I deserve."

McKart won the WBO light-middleweight title against Santos Cardona in 1996, but has not held a major world title since.
He has been largely inactive in recent times, fighting just five times since 2008.

I really did not think he would fight in the US due to having to fight trout etc. But having dodged that fight, this makes more sense for him.
