To get some explosure and become noticed in Australia? Mundine is fighting Mckart and already the forums are filled, interview, papers etc Geale defends his world title in australia and nada, nothing, zilch.Geez Kostya couldnt even remember his name. And the only time/everytime he is menshioned, mundines name is attached. The question is,whats he need to do?..if your daniel geale what can you do to change this?
He's doing the right thing. The names on his schedule for the next 18 months have more credibility than Mundines entire career. Also, Daniel doesnt talk ****.
Geale needs to tuck his shirt in and sit up straight in interviews then people will take him seriously.
Like it or not, If you are not out spoken and saying ridiculous things in Oz boxing you are not going to be noticed by the general public.
he just needs to show his face more. toss the coin at footy matches, go on celebrity apprentice or dancing with the stars or some ****, take pictures with celebrities at charity events. its not much good to the australian public if your "just a boxer" The public likes to relate to people and that means engaging with them. thats why fenech was so popular, he was into everything and his face was everywhere.
For a mild mannered guy like Geale you just gotta keep at it...Mundine can sit back, say some stupid **** and the sheeple will pay attention..much harder work to get yourself noticed when you are the kind of guy Geale is. Like people have said if it means going to shopping centres, footy charity nights, appearing on late night infomercials...you gotta do what it takes, ***** yourself a bit... he can't tuck himself away and expect people to go out of the way to find out who he is. Sucks a bit but thats how it is.
this. He has to call out Mayweather criticize police or have epithany's call Mundine a pissant and challenge him to fight on Anzac day 2 months later. Actually I would rather he keeps going as he is.:good
Fight Sergio Martinez on free to air. I know I'm dreaming but if he could get one of the networks (7,9,10) to broadcast the fight his following would increase. For example if they did it on 10, they could show preview shows on One HD, live weigh in's, press conferences. Fight ANYONE on free to air. I don't think some people realise how much PPV limits your exposure. First up you have to be able to afford regular foxtel then be willing to shell out $50 to watch him fight. People who are not boxing enthusiasts (and really, how many are there?) are not going to do this. I love the sport and watch it/follow it every day but the simple fact remains I can't afford fox let alone the $50 on top of that and thus I miss out on a lot of fights locally and internationally. Besides Mundine V Geale (which I went to a club for) I have not seen one of Geales fights live since he won the title! I rely on streams and then downloading replays afterwards to keep up. As stated before PPV just limits you in so many ways it's not funny. First by people being willing to shell out for it and also in the media. What reasons does Ch 7/9/10 have to report on the fight if they are not making money from it? When Ch 10 did their series in 2010 I saw every weigh in reported on in their news the night before. If you could just flick on the telly to any free to air channel you are there to be watched by the entire nation. Now I have no idea of the numbers and won't pretend too but how much can guys like Geale expect to make from PPV? How many people buy fights like Geale V Adama and Geale V Albert? Even if the money being offered isn't as good at first for a free to air channel look at it as an investment. If Daniel has big fights (Martinez, Chavez, Mundine II) on free to air and wins or performs very well in a loss, he will become more well known. Whatever Channel he is on will promote him by having him on their sports shows like The Footy Show (which he has been on) and their nightly news broadcasts. Can you imagine how many more people would know Daniel if he fought Martinez for example in MSG and it was shown live on a Sunday arvo on Ch 9 or 10? Chavez in Texas or Vegas?
Now I have a question which maybe some on here will be able to answer or give me an insight on. Do those that control guys like Dib, Geale, Zappa even have discussions with the free to air networks about their fighters appearing on their Channels? Do they attempt to make approaches? I'm just wondering because I know some might say they (the networks) aren't interested in boxing but Ch 10 did their fight night series (I think it was Thursdays for a month?) and Ch 7 recently showed Darchinyan's bout from America live along with Mares V Agbeko II on their sister network 7mate. Networks may not be chasing these guys down to put them on free to air but when Geale goes to fight Pirog for example in August (hopefully) from the States what's wrong with Grange going to one of said networks and saying do you guys want the rights to show this live? Is they money really that much greater on PPV? Seriously how many people are buying these $50 PPV's? Even if the money is greater does no one hold the view that fan bases will build much bigger and quicker if the fighters can be seen on free to air as opposed to paid TV?
It's a chicken or the egg thing. FTA isn't interested because they think fans aren't interested. More FTA covereage generates more interest. Problem is it takes time to build a following, something the FTA networks can't, or don't want to, afford. These are the people who axe shows after 2 episodes and shun the Sopranos to 11:30pm. More exposure on regular Fox sports to build a following, then a move to one of the seconadary channels (7mate, one etc.) would be the only way to get FTA exposure. Rather difficult generating interest when you only fight 3-4 times per year tho.
They have shown interest to an extent. They have shown a few of Vitali and Wladimir Klitscko's fights. They did an Australian boxing series which lasted 4 weeks. Ch 7 showed Vics fight live. How much interest are the powers that be showing in aggressively pursuing their fighters on FTA?
