    That's the end result of corporations taking over boxing, and making it a hoity toity PPV debacle.

    Yes, I would guess over 50% of 'Americans' have not heard of a Ray Robinson, let alone a Jung Koo Chang.

    Most Americans don't know a lot of fighters as boxing isn't what it used to be. Do you mean "most American fight fans"? "Historians"? And why single out these fighters?

    I know lots of Americans who know the men you listed.

    You are a boxing fancier, and yet you still have not heard of all them listed. That kind of shows the list is far too advance. I would argue perhaps that as we speak only two former fighters are known by at least 50% of Americans: Ali and Tyson...

    Best Japanese fighter I've seen (and there are many I never saw, but I'm working on it)

    I singled these fighters out because :
    A: they were all great fighters that most casual boxing fans don't know
    and
    B. Because all of them are Hall of Fame boxers, so are generally recognized as former greats.

    That and I've either seen them fight several times, or have found footage of them while researching...

    Fair enough. But most casual boxing fans don't know who Harry Greb, Jack Britton, George Dixon, Freddie Steele, Fred Apostoli, Mike Gibbons or Jimmy Wilde are either. So those gents you mentioned are in good company:good

    Oh hell. I read Mike Gibbons and mistook that for his brother Tommy. Sad to admit I never knew about him until you mentioned him and I downloaded his bio. Wonder if here are any films of him anywhere?

    There are a couple out there. One vs Packey McFarland and the other I believe is against Mike O'Dowd.

    Thanks. I'll see if I can dig them up. Finished reading his bio. Can't believe I knew nothing about him. I understand there is a book out about him and his brother...stupid article didn't give the name, but shouldn't be too hard to find if it's still in print.
