His official weight was 199 look it up. Joe wasnt a smart dude. He dehydrated himself and still got the KO.

But you dont know **** about boxing being a Pacquiao fan. Maybe Conn shoulda asked for a catchweight lol

Even Ali said that Louis was not that good and that he was slow, small and robotic. I will take Ali's word over yours when it comes to boxing.

Didn't Ali have the size advantage against Doug Jones ?

Although Jones was probably naturally thicker/bigger than Conn. However, still a point.

And Jones isn't "Billy Conn" level either.

Fighters have tough fights. Just the way it is.

Louis is robotic like Floyd is robotic they both are fundamentally sound. Joe Louis is probably the most sound boxer puncher ever. Its like comparing Roy jones to Floyd diff styles. Joe doesnt make mistakes.

Ali lost 3 times to Norton. Is Norton better then Louis lol?

I read this article a while back and I still don't agree that we should bring up how Ali looked against certain fighters post-exile.

    Like this tidbit:

I don't see a Peak Ali using that tactic because he would have the ability with his legs stamina wise to utilize movement for the full fight unless Louis takes his legs away the hard way...beat them out of him. Ali did have a rough fight with Chuvalo.

Absolutely. Boxers are more favorable than Fans.

However, lets be careful because we all can start pulling out what a fighter has said about another boxer. Boxers are delusional sometimes too.

I have watched Louis fight and he was good. I don't think Ali would have had much problems with him though. And a long list of modern fighters I think would beat him. He deserves to be ranked number 2 all time at heavyweight based on how he fought in his day.

Ali would have trouble with Joe. Joe was superior to a lot of fighters Ali fought. And Ali did have problems of his own in certain matches...even at his fastest. He had flaws that could be exposed.

however, I would favor Ali at his peak.

I think Ali was right. You can't really find many advantages that Louis had over him. Ali may have even hit as hard his power is underated and if you put those small gloves on him he would have stopped a lot more boxers.

He's my personal favourite heavyweight of all time.

How he'd do against today's fighters is of complete irrelevance to me, since he walked the walk in his own time. That's all I care about.

I've never looked at his impressive numbers as the reason he's so great. It helps of course, but it's not the reason.

To me, Joe is great because, some sixty plus years after his retirement, we still haven't seen his equal as a puncher. Some hit harder with one shot sure, but for overall effectiveness, for pinpoint precision power punching, not anyone, not even Tyson, was better.
An amazing finisher. Never got flustered, or anxious. Once you were hurt, you were as good as dead. His composure was incredible.

Great learner. Fair enough, he had his struggles with certain fighters (Pastor, Schmeling, Godoy, Conn, Walcott) but like all great fighters, he went back and improved on his performance the second time out, usually by flattening the guy.

These are some of the reasons, beyond the fact that Joe was a symbol and a hero for his time, a thoroughly decent man, and one who did more for his people than Ali ever did, are why I rate him so high.

That said, I feel Ali would have beaten him. It doesn't lessen Joe's greatness in my eyes though.
