Were there ever any successful fighters from an upper class background ?

    Salvador Sanchez came from a comfortable background so i read way back in the 80's.

    Boxing is a working man's game there are a few boxers from middle class backgrounds. Ray Leonard seemed to come from a more middleclass background

    Oddly enough, nobody has mentioned the Klitschko's.

    He was a Colonel in the Soviet air force at the time of Chernobyl which was 86. I dont know how long he had held that position but i am guessing even if it wasnt long he must have been ranked fairly high up before that to work his way up the ladder.

    he became rich by fighting, i wouldnt say he was dirt poor to begin with though

    Wasn't exactly successful but Dana Rosenblat. Fought Vin Paz a couple of times in the 90's.

    Yes his family earned many royalties from their numerous chart toppers such as Save a Prayer and Ordinary World.

    I will just say though, since they were living in Communism, maybe that's why their housing quality was limited?

    Thats what i meant by maybe not to us.

    But in terms of the Soviet block I would guess they were in the more upper class section of society.

    Not sure if there is any truth to this, I am just guessing , but maybe they didnt need a big house because their Father was always away and they would have to travel a lot anyway.

    Yeah i'd guess they were probably quite upper class then, just under the Politician level though. It's not like people really "need" a big house & you made a good point about there father being away. Just if he had the same job in the UK or USA i'd expect a big fancy house. Communism eh?
