The $20,000 number is from an interview with Andre Ward who claimed that's how much it costs.

I agree it'll cost less per person but could boxing really afford to pay, say, $5000 for a fight in which the boxers are only making $25,000?

It's a trade-of you give money but you gain some credibility. I really don't think that cycling for example is richer than boxing as a sport and they are able to sustain the testing system and to survive financially. The big problem is that there is not one single sanctioning body as in all other sports to determine rules, to impose them and to collect money from its members in order to function. If there was such an organization I'm pretty sure that the random blood testing was feasible. In the current situation I have to probably agree with you that it is impossible to organize and to finance such testing by for example WBC. People are giving Floyd credit for demanding the random testing but the fighters from his promotional company are not being tested as much as I know

VADA has filled a price niche.

USADA is a government organization and had an effective sanctioned monopoly. VADA went and copied all the WADA documents and slightly changed the wording, set up a website calling themselves the testing organization for Boxing and MMA, and Boxers are signing up with them.

The only logical niche they fill is the price point. FMJ found it easy to meet the price of the USADA. Other fighters can't and therefore are going with VADA.
