    Round 8

Escalera is jabbing in on Brinson and unloading whenever he gets him walked into the ropes. Escalera puts his head down and fires wide sloppy body shots as Brinson reaches out and pushes down on the back of his neck. Brinson is getting knocked around the ring but keeping his feet, and throwing light counters back the whole time.

    10-9 Escalera

    77-75 Escalera

Was that bell a little early or was I not paying close enough attention?

Curiously, Brinson's hometown of Geneva NY is about the same distance from this Albany venue as Escalera's native Hoboken NJ. :think

So he isn't exactly the house fighter...although he obviously had the more vocal cheering section. (and his brother was on the undercard, so DeGuardia is probably the family promoter)

I scored the fight for Escalera, 7-1 rounds, 79-73 points, giving Brinson the 1st. Shocking decision, Escalera got over on workrate and by landing by far the heavier and more effective punches. No other way for me to interpret that draw other than a hometown decision for Brinson, despite the official scorecards being close to what Teddy Atlas had.

Not necessarily a terrible decision, though I had Escalera winning 5-3 personally. Good clash of styles between those two.
