Mauricio is the nephew of bantam ATG Lupe Pintor, and is so far off to an auspicious start of 17-0-1 (11) - but against mostly weak opposition. His one previous step up was his draw, with a fellow unbeaten prospect.

Ivan Cano is the brother of Pablo Cesar Cano, and at 20-4 (14) also has a bit of a padded record.

This is for the vacant WBO Youth light welterweight title and the vacant WBC Youth light welterweight title.

Bet you've never seen a vacant youth light welterweight title unification before, huh? :hey

Round 1

Cano is throwing high jabs and dropping rights to the body. Pintor just circles and tries to wing out a quick left hook counter here and there. Cano lands a very low right hand, on the cup. Pintor winces and is given a minute to recover. They trade at close range while circling, both missing or grazing until Cano lands a right hand FLUSH ON THE CHIN. Pintor wobbles and falls backward!! Knockdown!! Pintor is up and trying to lean in on Cano, who hammers him with wild swiveling head and body shots. Big continuous flurry from Cano, as Pintor tries to duck down with arms folded over his head.

Round 2

Cano tries to pick up where he left off, slicing away. Pintor tries to stave him off with a steady jab, but Cano is barreling past it and landing hard blows to the body. Pintor stands his ground and blocks, and tries to put some leverage on a left hook downstairs by turning his hips into it. Hard 1-2 by Cano. Pintor is hurt and drops down to hold Cano. Jab to the throat by Cano, who then misses a sloppy follow up hook. Forearms and elbows used liberally by Cano as he recklessly fights his way in, bull in a china shop. Pintor hops in place and tries to get a jab out edgewise. Pintor's face is puffy. Clinch. Break. Wild hooks by Cano, one just getting a piece around Pintor's glove and the other missing altogether.

Boxrec doesn't have a DOB for him, and Telemundo just stated in their "Quien es quien" graphic that he was the hermano de Pablo Cesar Cano...not whether he was elder or younger. :think

My guess is the former.

 

Round 3

Cano presses Pintor back to the ropes, landing a few right hands to the body and jaw in the process. Pintor tries to jab him off but is ineffective in doing so for long, as he is in using his footwork to stay off the ropes. A few flurries to the body by Pintor are flung out while backing up, but not very damaging. Cano starts to plant shots on him as he leans against them, and Pintor holds - excessively. So much that a point is taken. :shock: Or maybe it was for hitting on the break, unclear. He was guilty of both. This is getting to be a deep hole...

Oh yeah, nasty chopping hit on the break. Deserved point deduction at the end of the third, seeing it now in slow-motion from a different angle.

I'd imagine Cano is well up.
