i mean...no strenght and conditioning coaches, crazy diets etc etc yet they were willing to bang it out for 15rds, and some without even breaking a sweat... now, i wouldn't be surprised if 60% of the a and b level fighters are juicing
I remember reading somewhere that Jake Lamotta had been taking a drug which was a precursor to today's steroids. However, it made him bloated so he had to work harder to lose weight.
People get softer the more society develops. These guys like dempsey poured brine into their skin to make it tougher. Gren fought 300 professional fights and then fought at bars at night while drunk, with one eye. It is just the softening of people generally and the food that we eat now makes us fatter, life was more simple then
Gee, Maybe fighters back in the day just worked hard?? I mean all this **** now and you would think fighters would be miles better than the old timers, but no. I watch roided HW's and the ****ers are gassing after 3 rounds, and I get **** suckers trying to tell me Vlad would destroy every HW in history. Too much money in the sport has led people to take the path of least resistance on a lot of different levels.
that's the thing.....are we really more advanced, or are we taking a step back ????? there is only maybe a hand full of fighters that can probably bang it out for 15rds.......crazy **** i tell'ya
generally speaking, people from the old school had a much, much tougher standard of living, and therefore, they were tougher individuals, and way more was on the line for them.
The pace was slower in the olden days - modern boxers are likely much better athletes. That said, I believe the old school guys were mentally tougher and that there was a greater pool of talent coming into boxing.
