Two of the most beloved sports Football and Soccer have much in common. Lately, many are wondering why there is such an international pull for soccer while football remains an American sport. This articles intent is to bring out some of the similarities and differences between soccer and football based on: history, team size, and fan size.
    History: Football vs. Soccer
Football is actually a relative from soccer. Though the date is unsure of when the sport was first known to be played, there were many professional teams starting to spring up in the late 1800s. It was not that much different from its closer cousin rugby, but was showing some far different plays from soccer already.
Here is an interesting fact. Soccer or "football" as is as known in most European and South American Countries is actually the founder of both rugby and football. The major disconnections occurred when the rules for soccer changed to a "no hands" rule. At this point rugby was born. Later as rugby split into two different kinds of play: traditional rugby which allows drop kick goals and more footwork, and American football which has kickoffs and field goals (reminiscent of its soccer days) tackling and hand offs (similar to rugby) and forward passing, options, and other additions.
Soccer on the other hand has a long history, according to the Munich Ethnological Museum there is a Chinese text

talking about "soccer" games in china. Though it is unsure how similar these games were to what we know as soccer today.

Rugby is a great sport; unfortunately there are about 10-12 national teams well above the others. The thing is in rugby , you cannot attack at any times an opponent that doesn't hold the ball, you are not allowed a forward pass; the rules are very strict also.

Kessler obviously has been fighting in a reduced version over the past few years. Mostly due to the eye injury.

I expect Kessler to have a good showing, and better than recently. However, I also expect LHW not to be optimal for him.. But I think he will still come out of it victorious.

I wouldn't say LHW has been optimal for Green, either - seeing as he got a gift decision over the very average Sebastian Demers after being badly rocked/hurt several times. :yep

Don't worry. It won't start at least until the ESPN3 feed (which isn't showing any Champions League) goes on the air. :good

Back to boxing, whats your overall prediction for Kessler-Green? How do you see it playing out?

Green will start loose popping the jab throwing some light shots trying to get comfy, takes round 1, Kessler begins to let his hands go in RD 2, Green becomes more cautious, and then overall Kessler dominates to a 7th round KO.

Besides "Soccer" was used in Europe at one time. It was a short version of association football. Anyway, saying that football is just running around kicking a ball just as simple minded as claiming basketball is a bunch of grown men trying to get a ball into a handbag. Or american football a bunch of fat guys in tights fighting each other over an egg made of leather without throwing punches. If they didn't show the game during the event, the stadium would be half-empty for the fight.

You could just as easily spin that to be that the ancient sport from which the other two evolved as offshots was 'rugby'. Since the fork in the road where the rules changed caused the sport that KEPT use of hands to be called rugby, wouldn't it make more sense to call that the direct lineage of the original sport than the one that changed to be feet only? ;)

So it isn't that rugby and football both came from soccer; football and soccer both came from rugby.
